Street Maintenance Technician

Job TitleJoin our Streets Department team and play a vital role in maintaining the City's infrastructure.Essential FunctionsParticipate in all phases of general maintenance in concrete streets, asphalt streets, allies, drainage ditches, and storm drainage systems.Perform skilled construction, maintenance, and labor work; resurfaces and grades and shapes roads; aids in emergencies and storm related activities.Assist with preparation of concrete base including setting wood forms and positioning steel; measure and pour concrete; finish concrete; remove wooden forms and backfill; clean site.Performs asphalt repair and replacements.Operate various equipment involved in the construction, repair, and maintenance of roads, including mowers, light tractors with attachments, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and other tools and equipment.Haul material, transport vehicles, and equipment to job sites to use various trucks.Load and unload materials and equipment.Ensure that any vehicle and equipment issued to them is properly maintained.Cut, collect, and dispose of tree limbs, weeds, trash, litter, debris.Assist with sidewalk markings, street signs, and streetlights.Perform preventive checks on equipment and if a repair is warranted the employee is to contact their supervisor so that the necessary steps are taken to have the property repaired.Prepare equipment, vehicles, and tools for work assignments.Read and understand written job instructions and plans.Clean and maintain shop tools, equipment, vehicles, and facilities.Performs a variety of Public Works Department manual labor tasks as assigned.Subject to after-hours call-out for emergency situations.Has frequent contact with employees, citizens, local state, federal agencies, and other city departments.Ability to arrive to work on time and must maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance.Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesEntry level position must possess willingness to learn and ability to follow written and oral instructions.Ability to read simple maps and drawings, pick up trash, keep storage areas clean, orderly, and in safe working conditions.Ability to operate all machinery needed to perform assigned duties.Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment in the field or as directed.Basic understanding of and/or experience in pavement maintenance and construction.Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other employees.Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.Ability to understand safety standards and practices for construction sites, roadways, and heavy equipment.Education, Experience, Certificates, and Licenses RequiredHigh school graduate or equivalent; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Must have a Valid Class C Texas motor vehicle driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record with the ability obtain and maintain a Texas Class B CDL within the six (6) month probationary period.A Valid Texas Class B CDL with tanker endorsement is preferred.Experience job stability and attractive benefits by pursuing a full-time career in municipal government with the City of Ennis.Medical insurance.Prescription coverage with generic prescriptions covered 100%.Dental insurance.Vision insurance.Basic life insurance and Accidental death and dismemberment insurance equal to one­ times your annual salary up to a plan maximum of $250,000.Optional short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance.Retirement benefits through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 7 % employee contribution and a 2:1 City match.Paid Time Off (PTO), based on education level and prior years of similar work experience, earned on an accrual basis, and made available to you upon hire.96 hours per year of individual catastrophic sick time off (ICS), for catastrophic illness.12 (twelve) city-paid holidays.Gym membership - reimbursed up to $35 per month ($15 for membership and $20 if you attend 10 times a month).Cash awards for participation in the Wellness plan.$100 per year of service awarded annually as longevity pay, after the first full year of employment.Several optional, rich benefits which are fully competitive within the metroplex.Address: 107 N Sherman St. Ennis, Texas, 75119Phone: View phone number on click.appcast.io
