FA26 Semester Laboratory Assistant (4)School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)Academic AffairsTsaile/Shiprock/Tuba City CampusDiné College STUDENT EmploymentDuty Schedule:Based on the student worker's work schedule. Need to meet with supervisor to make the schedule; flexible hours Monday – Friday.Summary/Objective of Position:To serve as a lab assistant, a student must be in good academic standing and possess knowledge of science laboratory practices. The student must be able to safely clean and organize the laboratory, prepare materials and equipment for classes, follow instructions, and complete other assigned duties. The lab assistant must also work professionally and cooperatively with faculty and students. Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, materials, and safety practices. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle, label, and store laboratory samples properly. Dependable, responsible, and attentive to detail. Willingness to maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment. Ability to assist students respectfully and professionally. QUALIFICATIONSEducation & Experience Minimum:Applicants must have a background in biology and chemistry and demonstrate familiarity with basic laboratory procedures and safety practices. Must be enrolled with the Diné College.Must be in good standing.Preferred: Previous laboratory experience or completion of relevant science laboratory courses. Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment, materials, and safety practices. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately. Knowledge:The lab assistant will work closely with faculty during assigned working hours. The lab assistant's responsibilities will include:Preparing and providing materials and supplies needed for laboratory activities. Assisting students with laboratory procedures and skills as needed. Remaining present on the laboratory floor to support faculty and students. Handling lab samples appropriately and placing them in the proper storage areas. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment. Skills:Demonstrate strong technical and management skills, provide excellent customer service, and learn new tasks quickly. Read and follow laboratory procedures, enforce safety regulations, and maintain a clean and safe work environment. Abilities:Assist all laboratory students and help resolve issues effectively. Maintain a safe, organized, and professional laboratory environment. Demonstrate strong computer skills when completing laboratory tasks. Communicate clearly and professionally with students and staff. Understand and consistently fulfill all assigned laboratory responsibilities. Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:Lift and move laboratory equipment weighting up to 25 lbs. Organized and store laboratory supplies. Assist with all areas of laboratory-related work, as needed. Other Requirement(s):No travel required.
