Ophthalmic Technician - Downers Grove

Position Ophthalmic Technician – Downers Grove & Hinsdale, IL Employment Summary Full‑Time, 40 hours per week Hours: Monday‑Friday, 7:00AM–5:00PM Locations: Downers Grove and Hinsdale; travel to Glen Ellyn, Naperville, and Bloomingdale clinics as needed Benefits Comprehensive medical, dental, vision (including healthcare navigation assistance) Mental health benefit at no cost Life and disability insurance $5,250 tuition reimbursement per year Immediate 401(k) match 40 hours paid volunteer time off Up to 12 weeks parental leave at 100% pay Financial benefit for adoption and surrogacy (non‑physician team members after eligibility requirements met) Responsibilities Perform extensive data collection for diagnosis as delegated by the physician Interact with all patients respectfully and professionally Communicate procedures to patients during visits Ascertain patient needs and unusual circumstances; seek advice from senior staff or doctors as needed Provide telephone support for ocular emergencies, prescription refills, and patient care questions Adhere to approved policies and procedures Obtain patient history (chief complaint, history of present illness, past history, family history, allergies, medications) Complete accurate, concise documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Perform patient care procedures: visual acuity, confrontation visual fields, motility and pupillary function tests, applanation tonometry, tono‑pen tonometry, refractometry, angle assessment and pupil dilation, automated visual field testing, ophthalmic imaging (retina and optic nerve scanning – OCT), corneal topography, keratometry, pachymetry Assist in maintaining exam rooms by cleaning between patients and at day’s end, cleaning and sterilizing instruments Prepare for certification testing Maintain HIPAA compliance Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or in process of obtaining certification Must obtain COT certification within one year of employment Minimum of 2 years experience in an ophthalmology/optometry setting Fundamental experience with standard ophthalmic evaluation equipment Compensation Base pay range $20.55–$30.85 per hour, with pay determined by skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
