SEASONAL CUSTODIAN

STARTING WAGE: $22.00/hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A working knowledge of the methods and equipment used in custodial services, floor, and building care, plus light maintenance work
• High School Diploma or equivalent (copy required upon hire)
• Yearly Physical (required within 1 month of hire)
• Valid NYS Driver’s License (copy required upon hire)
• Ability to work with a diverse population presenting a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, developmental and sexual identities. Must have the ability and willingness to establish and foster healthy and supportive relationships that acknowledge individual identities and encourage personal growth.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Good Communication and Organizational Skills
• Experience working with adolescents

§ NYS Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR)

§ Multi-State Sex Offender Registry (SOR)

§ NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) fingerprinting

§ NYS Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL)

§ NYS OMIG Medicaid Exclusion List

§ Out-of-state child abuse register inquiry of any state in which the person resided within the last five years (if applicable)

§ NYS License Event Notification Service (LENS)

§ Office of Inspector General (OIG)

1. Must successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)

HOURS

• 2:00pm-10:30pm, four days a week
• Must be flexible to meet the needs of the program

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Be able to handle all the physical responsibilities of the position, which include but are not limited to bending, lifting, moving, and prolonged periods of standing, the ability to climb ladders and scaffolds, the ability to use various cleaning equipment and products and the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• The ability to shovel and remove snow from walkways and areas adjacent to buildings.
• Must be able to successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training

OBJECTIVES OF POSITION

• Perform a variety of cleaning and unskilled maintenance tasks.
• Responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of assigned areas in assigned buildings, surrounding grounds, and walkways.
• Employees in this job also function as a part-time Vocational Instructor for the youth assigned to their specific skilled trade area, providing a positive work experience emphasizing the development of good work ethic and vocational skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Trade Specific:

1. Perform general cleaning and disinfection tasks
2. Collect and remove the trash, recycling, and transport to a centralized location for disposal
3. Washes floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows using mops, detergents, brushes, and other cleaning devices
4. Scrubs and cleans restrooms and showers, using hand-operated equipment and cleaning agents; and unclogs toilets, traps, and sinks
5. Vacuums, strips, and waxes floors, and shampoo carpets using manual and mechanical equipment
6. Replaces lightbulbs, and dusts or washes light fixtures and high places, such as ceilings, using ladders, other appropriate equipment, and tools
7. Polishes wood and metal surfaces, fixtures, furniture, and equipment
8. Moves, and arranges furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning tasks or preparation for meetings events, and other activities
9. Sweeps, removes snow, and salts walkways using mechanical and manual equipment
10. Reports and recommends necessary repairs and maintenance requiring skilled trades work to the supervisor
11. Prepares, mixes, and dilutes cleaning solutions following the manufacturer’s directions
12. Demonstrates proper cleaning procedures
13. Properly use equipment, material, and tools in a safe and professional manner
14. Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Vocational Instructor:

1. Upon hiring into the program, assess the youth’s interests and knowledge of the Vocational Program specific to your trade area

1. Instructs youth in a skilled trade to prepare them for employment upon discharge
2. Plan and conduct on-the-job training activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides youth with opportunities to observe, question, and participate in
3. Instruct youth in the proper and safe care of work areas and all applicable equipment; stress safety at all times
4. Be prepared and in position to begin work by the Vocational Program time schedules; ensure that assigned youth are properly supervised at all times and maintain attendance and work schedule records
5. Enforce established dress, conduct, and behavior codes appropriate to the Vocational Program area
6. Communicate and document significant behaviors or incidents on behalf of youth.
7. Maintain all trade-related, Vocational Program, and youth records and paperwork in a timely, organized way

The William George Agency for Children’s Services is located on a 650-acre campus nine miles northeast of Ithaca, in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. It is a private not-for-profit residential treatment center licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) that serves both male and female youth between the ages of 12 and 21, and their families, who present with significant mental health issues, behavioral difficulties, and substance abuse issues. Our programs offer an array of treatment modalities specifically designed to meet the needs of our youth.
