Floral Laborer-Seasonal

Job Title

Performs intermediate manual work planting flowers and maintaining flowerbeds, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Landscape and Naturalist Leader.

Installs new landscapes and maintains existing landscapes, including spraying, tilling, planting, mulching, watering, trimming trees, and removing invasive species.

Operates various trucks/equipment/tools in the performance of duties, including department trucks, riding/push mowers, weed eater, chain/power saws, gator, bobcat, edger, sprayers, pruners, hedge trimmers, tillers, fountain vacuum, goat vacuum and other hand/power tools as needed.

Implements plant treatment plans as directed

Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.

Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of department policies and procedures and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) safety policies and procedures; thorough knowledge of invasive plant species; thorough knowledge of methods, practices, and materials used in landscaping and flower maintenance, with ability to plan, design, and maintain flowerbeds and other areas, including planting, weeding, mulching, and fertilizing; thorough knowledge of safety precautions and practices applicable to working with equipment, vehicles, and a variety of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, with ability to assure safety of self and others at all times; ability to operate a variety of trucks/equipment/tools as assigned; ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out verbal or written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, other departments, vendors, and the general public.

High school diploma or GED.

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions, frequently requires walking and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires sitting, speaking or hearing and climbing or balancing; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), working with explosives and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

Valid driver's license in the State of Indiana.
