The primary activity is providing and supervising skill demonstrations, practice time and validation of the student’s ability to perform the skills. The Nurse Instructor will also facilitate critical thinking and clinical experiences through simulation scenarios. Other tasks include maintaining inventory and maintenance of the lab equipment. Description of Duties Sim Center (SC) Nurse Instructor Assist students in the development of psychomotor clinical skills. Verify that students candemonstrate proper technique and understanding of clinical skills. Assure that clinicalskills are consistent with standards of nursing practice. Act as a resource person andsupervise undergraduate managers and/or graduate assistants in the SC. Makerecommendations for changes in SC skills based on evidence-based practice. Offerdirection/support/resources to students for successful completion of required skilldemonstrations. Collaborate with faculty regarding student competencies. Maintainongoing communication with SC student managers, graduate assistants, nursingstudents, department chair, SC director and other Nurse Instructors. Document andvalidate effectiveness of student demonstrations. Maintain the SC in terms of safety,physical appearance, and neatness. Assist with annual inventory of supplies. Enforce security of SC facility. Ensure maintenance of clinical equipment, materials, andresources including the computers. Promote the professional development of students. Complete additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by program chairpersonand/or SC director. Conduct simulated case scenarios with students as part of theirclinical courses. Debrief students after simulation activities to enhance clinical decision‑making skills. Assesses and identifies space and equipment needs for functioning of SC location(s). Monitor use of disposable supplies and report to director to be fiscallyresponsible. Decision Making Make recommendations for changes in SC skills based on evidence‑based practice. Verify that students can demonstrate proper technique and understanding of clinical skills. Assist in the remediation of clinical skills for students to complete coursework. Fiscal Responsibility N/A Supervisory Responsibility Act as a resource person and supervise undergraduate SC managers and/or graduate assistants. Minimum Requirements Profile Three years of professional nursing experience – current within 6 months, preferred inpatient medical/surgical, maternity/pediatric, or critical care experience; and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, or a closely related field from anaccredited college or university; OR one year of professional nursing experience and a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Bachelor’s Degree required. Necessary Special Requirement: Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing; or possession of a non‑renewable temporary practice permit issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Condition of Employment: Employees possessing non‑renewable temporary practice permits must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of the theories, standards and practices of professional nursing,including, as appropriate, those in nursing direct care areas. Knowledge of current developments in the field of general and/or specializedprofessional nursing. Knowledge of teaching methods, and instructional aids applicable to nursinginstruction, and the techniques and methods of conducting classroom training andeducation, and/or on‑the‑job training activities. Knowledge of licensing, certification and accreditation regulations and standardsapplicable to individuals/patients/residents being served. Knowledge of facility policies, practices and procedures. Ability to teach and apply professional nursing theories and practices. Ability to guide and instruct direct care professional and non‑professional nursingservices personnel in the application of professional nursing practices,methodology and standards. Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports. Ability to acquire new knowledge, skills, and techniques in nursing theory andpractices by participating in out-service, in-service, staff development andcontinuing education programs, as appropriate. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees ofthe facility. Ability to evaluate patterns and trends in the delivery of nursing care. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
