Job Summary
The Group Fitness Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operations of the Group Fitness department at their assigned location. This role oversees instructor scheduling, class quality, member experience, and department performance while providing coaching, training, and ongoing support to the Group Fitness team. The Group Fitness Supervisor works closely with location leadership to
ensure programming aligns with business goals, maintains high standards of instruction, and fosters an engaging, welcoming fitness community. This position is expected to lead by example by regularly teaching group fitness classes while serving as the primary resource for instructors and assisting with department operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Provides day-to-day supervision, coaching, and support to Group Fitness Instructors.
• Assists with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, and mentoring new instructors.
• Participates in employee performance discussions and provides ongoing feedback.
• Assists club leadership with scheduling, performance management, recognition and corrective action, as appropriate.
• Promotes a positive, collaborative, and accountable team culture Duties  

Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the Group Fitness department.
• Ensure all scheduled classes are appropriately staffed.
• Coordinate instructor substitutions and schedule adjustments as needed.
• Maintain department standards for professionalism, safety, and member experience.
• Support the successful launch of new class formats, instructors, and special events.
• Monitor class attendance trends and recommend schedule adjustments based on participation and member demand.
• Collaborate with location leadership to achieve department goals and key performance indicators.

Instructor Leadership Development

• Recruit, interview, onboard, and train new Group Fitness Instructors in partnership with location management.
• Observe instructor performance and provide regular coaching and constructive feedback.
• Conduct routine class evaluations to ensure consistency, quality, and adherence to company standards.
• Mentor instructors to improve class delivery, coaching techniques, member engagement, and professionalism.
• Facilitate department meetings and ongoing training opportunities.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team environment..

Member Experience

• Build strong relationships with members and create a welcoming, high-energy fitness environment.
• Support membership growth and retention through member engagement, sales, and referrals.
• Address member concerns related to group fitness classes and resolve issues promptly.
• Encourage instructor engagement before, during, and after classes.
• Support member retention by delivering exceptional fitness experiences.
• Promote participation in group fitness programming and club events. Operational Excellence Compliance
• Ensure studios, equipment, and fitness spaces remain clean, organized, and safe.
• Verify instructors maintain all required certifications and submit renewals as required.
• Ensure instructors follow all company policies, emergency procedures, and safety protocols.
• Maintain accurate department records and documentation.
• Assist with department budgeting by monitoring supply and equipment needs.
• Coordinate equipment maintenance requests with club leadership as needed.

Instruction

• Teach minimum of five (5) Group Fitness or Edge group fitness classes as assigned based on certifications and business needs.
• Deliver safe, engaging, and motivating classes consistent with company programming standards.
• Provide exercise modifications and progressions to accommodate participants of varying fitness levels.
• Maintain current certifications required to teach assigned class formats.

• In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Education Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, or related field preferred.
• Current nationally recognized Group Fitness or Personal Training certification (ACE, NASM, AFAA, ACSM, ISSA, or equivalent).
• Specialty certifications in formats taught (Yoga, Pilates, Cycle, HIIT, Barre, Strength, etc.) are preferred where applicable.
• Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience teaching group fitness classes.
• Minimum one (1) year of leadership, coaching, mentoring, or supervisory experience.
• Experience scheduling instructors and coordinating class coverage.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
• Preferred experience in a health club, boutique fitness, or multi-format fitness environment.
• Preferred experience interviewing, hiring, and onboarding instructors.
• Preferred experience reviewing performance metrics and improving member engagement.
