Serviceman

The purpose of this position is to carry out service and maintenance efficiently and accurately of Northcentral's distribution system.

Supervisor: Overhead Line Superintendent

Knowledge/Education Requirements:

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• 2 years experience as a Lineman with an electric distribution system or contractor.
• Knowledge of REA approved material and equipment is required.
• Must maintain a valid Class 'A' Commercial Drivers License.
• Knowledge of reading and drawing basic construction, retirement and repair staking sketches.
• Must have a working knowledge of assigned portions of the distribution system, such as location of line currents, voltage levels and location of oil circuit reclosures and line fuses.
• Has a working knowledge of the use of protective equipment.
• Must have a working knowledge of the system of mapping and be able to read and to interpret maps to others.
• Has a working knowledge of the Rural Utilities Service Specification and Guidelines on the construction of Northcentral Electric Cooperative overhead and underground distribution lines.
• Must be able to meet the public well and communicate with our membership courteously and effectively.
• Must be able to work with mobile computer equipment and software to process work.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

• Installs and removes meters
• Responsible for connecting services, disconnecting services, reconnecting services, changing out meters, and trouble calls.
• Performs voltage tests for voltage complaints.
• Investigates member service complaints and outage reports. Takes the proper corrective action.
• Maintains tools and equipment issued. Periodically checks them for safety and proper working condition.
• Makes basic sketch job orders.
• Installs, retires and repairs security lights, as needed.
• Assists line construction crews as needed.
• Must be available for outage restoration.

Non-Essential Functions:

• Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.

Must be able to lift 100 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to climb (ascending and descending), using the feet and legs and/or hands and arms; must have sense of balance; must be able to stoop; kneel; crouch and crawl. Must be able to reach; handle; work primarily with fingers; and feel. Must be able to talk and hear. Must be able to obtain impressions through the eyes of the shape, size, distance, motion, and color or other characteristics of objects. Must possess acuity, far and near, depth perception, field of vision, accommodation, and color vision. Must be able to speak clearly and communicate effectively in order to interact with company employees and members.
