Contentnea Health is a Community Health Center providing comprehensive medical, dental and behavioral health services for members of our communities in Greene, Pitt and Pamlico counties in eastern North Carolina.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Assists medical practitioners with patient care.
• Performs pre-visit planning.
• Obtains vital signs.
• Performs standing orders.
• Reviews medical histories with patients.
• Prepares patients for examinations and assists practitioner with examinations and procedures.
• Collects and processes lab specimens.
• Administers medications and immunizations.
• Performs vision and hearing tests, ear irrigation, electrocardiograms, spirometry, wound care, splinting, nebulized therapies, and other clinical orders.
• Ensures collected data is communicated to practitioner and properly documented in electronic health record (EHR) and other designated databases, such as NCIR.
• Relays instructions and education to patients.
• Transmits medication orders/refills to pharmacies.
• Completes practitioner-related administrative documentation, including but not limited to durable medical equipment (DME) paperwork and other patient-care related forms, in accordance with organizational policies and payer requirements.
• Provides temporary support for front desk operations when assigned, which may include patient check-in and check-out, appointment scheduling, telephone support, and patient insurance verification.

• Maintains clinical areas.
• Enacts OSHA medical office standards for sanitation of intake areas, exam rooms, and laboratory, before, during, and after each patient.
• Properly disposes of medical waste, including sharps.
• Participates in inventory, stocking, and organization of medical supplies, medications, and/or immunizations, in exam rooms, laboratory, and storage areas, including crash carts, refrigerators, and freezers.
• Participates in regular maintenance of medical equipment such as laboratory machines, electrocardiogram machines, nebulizers, glucometers, and defibrillators.

Possesses work-related skills at a higher level than completion of high school, including formal written and verbal communication skills, computational and computer skills, mathematical, technical or health care related knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a trade school, para-professional, or certificate type program. Possesses specific knowledge of medical assisting processes and practices, typically acquired during completion of a certificate in medical assisting or nursing assisting with a duration of up to a year. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
