Job Description

This role offers an opportunity to join a large unionized manufacturing facility that produces gears and axles in a modern, air-conditioned plant. You will work as part of a dedicated electrical maintenance team alongside mechanical technicians to keep CNC machines, industrial washers, heat treat equipment, and assembly lines running safely and efficiently. The position focuses on electrical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and support of high-volume production in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair electrical issues on industrial production equipment in a timely and safe manner to minimize downtime.

• Work closely with maintenance technicians and other team members to ensure continuous production across CNC machining, industrial washers, heat treat areas, and assembly lines.

• Perform electrical troubleshooting on systems ranging from 120V to 480V, using a voltmeter and other diagnostic tools to identify faults and implement effective repairs.

• Support and maintain 3-phase motors, sensors, and motor control circuits, ensuring proper operation and reliability.

• Use a megohmmeter (mega meter) to check motor inputs and outputs and verify insulation integrity and circuit health.

• Read and interpret electrical prints, schematics, and blueprints to guide troubleshooting, repairs, and installations.

• Conduct preventative maintenance on electrical components and equipment, staying on top of 500–600 monthly PMs as part of a structured maintenance program.

• Log preventative maintenance activities and repair work in the facility’s ERP system using an assigned iPad, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.

• Install, route, and terminate electrical wiring, including conduit bending, pulling wire, and completing industrial electrical installations according to code and plant standards.

• Perform electrical troubleshooting and basic PLC-related diagnostics, supporting control engineers and assisting with minor edits when needed.

• Work with low voltage and industrial electrical systems, ensuring safe and compliant operation of equipment across the facility.

• Collaborate with team members to support robotic systems, including homing robots, addressing end-of-arm tooling issues, performing recoveries, and using the teach pendant to locate and clear faults.

• Support equipment start-up, testing, and verification after maintenance or repair to confirm proper function and product quality.

• Participate in welding and fabrication tasks when needed to support equipment repairs or modifications, working within safety and quality standards.

• Follow all safety procedures, including consistent use of lockout/tagout, and actively contribute to maintaining a strong safety record.

• Communicate effectively via radio and digital tools to coordinate work, report issues, and update status on ongoing tasks.

• Train on first shift for an initial period and then transition to the assigned off-shift while maintaining high performance and adaptability.

• Maintain strong attendance, reliability, and professionalism while working in a fast-paced, unionized production environment.

Essential Skills

• At least 7 years of experience as an Industrial Electrician in an industrial environment, preferably within automotive or similar high-volume manufacturing.

• Proven ability to perform electrical troubleshooting, including quickly diagnosing and resolving electrical problems on production equipment.

• Proficiency working inside electrical panels from 120V to 480V, using a voltmeter to safely troubleshoot circuits and components.

• Hands-on experience with 3-phase motors and sensors, including installation, troubleshooting, and repair.

• Ability to identify and understand motor control circuits and their operation within industrial systems.

• Experience using a megohmmeter (mega meter) to test motor inputs and outputs and evaluate electrical integrity.

• Basic understanding and practical use of electrical prints, schematics, and blueprints for troubleshooting and installations.

• Strong preventative maintenance experience, including planning, executing, and documenting PM tasks to keep equipment running reliably.

• Comfort using an iPad or computer-based ERP system to log work orders, PMs, and maintenance activities.

• Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and keep up with high production demands.

• Experience with industrial electrical work, including electrical wiring, low voltage systems, and industrial power distribution.

• Proficiency in conduit bending, pulling wire, and installing conduit for new or modified electrical installations.

• Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and interaction with PLC-controlled equipment, including basic fault diagnosis.

• Ability to support robotic systems, including homing robots, addressing end-of-arm tooling issues, performing recoveries, and navigating a teach pendant to locate faults.

• Strong commitment to safety, including consistent use of lockout/tagout procedures and adherence to plant safety policies.

• Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a coordinated maintenance and production team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Journeyman card or equivalent industrial electrical credential; candidates with a recognized state or union journeyman status may qualify for higher pay levels.

• Experience with PLC systems, particularly Allen-Bradley and Siemens, including performing edits and supporting controls engineers.

• Hands-on experience with CNC machines and heat treat equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment.

• in welding and fabrication to support maintenance repairs and equipment modifications.

• Experience in automotive manufacturing or similar high-volume, precision-driven production environments.

• Interest in pursuing advanced electrical credentials, such as Master Electrician, with support for training and certification.

• Familiarity with industrial washers, assembly lines, and testing equipment used in gear and axle manufacturing.

• Comfort working within a unionized environment and understanding of seniority-based systems and progression.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, unionized UAW manufacturing facility that is fully air conditioned and focused on safety, preventative maintenance, and teamwork. The plant includes CNC machining areas, industrial washers, a heat treat department, assembly lines for axles, and a tool room, all supported by a dedicated maintenance organization. Electricians and maintenance technicians work side by side to keep production running efficiently. The facility operates three shifts: 1st shift from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2nd shift from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and 3rd shift from 10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., with a shift premium for off-shifts. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday with frequent Saturday work to support production demands. All current openings are on 2nd shift, and new electricians train on 1st shift for approximately 1 to 4 weeks before transitioning to their permanent off-shift assignment. Most hires start as Level II Electricians, with clear pathways to higher levels based on experience and credentials. Employees use iPads and an ERP system to manage maintenance tasks and carry radios for communication. Uniforms are provided, and the facility enforces strict lockout/tagout procedures and safety protocols to maintain a strong safety record.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Marysville, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.25 - $42.25/hr.
