Offshore/Onshore Field Service Technician - Spartan
Singer Industrial
Job Description
Job Description
Spartan Industrial & Marine, a Singer Industrial company, is seeking a mechanically skilled Offshore/Onshore Field Service Technician to support industrial and hydraulic hose operations throughout Louisiana, the Gulf Coast, and offshore markets. This position will be based in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, but most work will be performed at customer locations, including offshore platforms, drilling rigs, vessels, marine terminals, shipyards, industrial plants, and other onshore facilities.
The technician will travel to offshore and onshore customer sites to inspect, fabricate, crimp, install, test, repair, and replace hydraulic and industrial hose assemblies. This position may also assist with on-site field hydrostatic testing of hoses, piping systems, and related equipment in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements.
The successful candidate must be a hands-on problem solver who can safely diagnose equipment issues, select the correct hose and fittings, operate testing equipment, and complete work in demanding environments with limited supervision.
This is a safety-sensitive position requiring strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, professional customer service, and the ability to respond to emergency service calls. Travel schedules may change with little notice, and assignments may require employees to remain away from home for multiple days.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Travel to offshore platforms, drilling rigs, vessels, marine facilities, shipyards, industrial plants, and other onshore and offshore customer locations.
- Fabricate and crimp hydraulic and industrial hose assemblies in the field using mobile and portable crimping equipment.
- Remove and replace worn, damaged, leaking, or failed hoses, fittings, adapters, couplings, and related components.
- Inspect hose assemblies for abrasion, corrosion, improper routing, excessive bending, deterioration, leakage, and other conditions that could lead to failure.
- Identify hose size, pressure rating, temperature requirements, media compatibility, end connections, and routing requirements.
- Measure, cut, clean, assemble, crimp, tag, and document hose assemblies according to company procedures, manufacturer specifications, and customer requirements.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic and industrial equipment to determine the source of hose, fitting, connection, or fluid-transfer problems.
- Perform on-site field hydrostatic testing of industrial hoses, hose assemblies, piping systems, and related components as assigned.
- Set up test areas, pumps, manifolds, gauges, hoses, fittings, barriers, and other equipment required for hydrostatic testing.
- Fill, vent, pressurize, hold, depressurize, and drain test systems in accordance with approved procedures and specified test pressures.
- Monitor pressure during testing, identify leaks or pressure loss, and immediately report abnormal or unsafe conditions.
- Verify that gauges and test instruments have current calibration status before use.
- Complete pressure-test records, inspection reports, test certificates, equipment logs, photographs, and other required documentation.
- Establish and maintain controlled test areas and ensure unauthorized personnel remain outside designated exclusion zones.
- Confirm systems are properly isolated, depressurized, and safe before connections are opened or equipment is removed.
- Perform visual inspections and quality checks as required by company procedures or customer specifications.
- Install hose restraints, protective sleeving, guards, clamps, fire sleeves, and other protective components as required.
- Maintain accurate service records, material usage, hose-registration information, customer signatures, photographs, and job documentation.
- Conduct pre-job planning, job safety analyses, toolbox talks, and stop-work reviews before beginning work.
- Comply with customer Safety and Environmental Management Systems, permit-to-work requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and facility-specific safety rules.
- Safely operate company vehicles, mobile service equipment, hand tools, power tools, hose saws, crimpers, hydrostatic test pumps, calibrated gauges, and material-handling equipment.
- Maintain assigned tools, testing equipment, inventory, service vehicles, and work areas in a clean and serviceable condition.
- Communicate clearly with customers, offshore supervisors, vessel crews, dispatch personnel, and internal operations teams.
- Recommend replacement assemblies, preventive-maintenance actions, and hose-management improvements to customers.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests after normal business hours.
- Support shop operations, inventory activities, special projects, and other field-service work when not assigned to a customer site.
- Exercise stop-work authority whenever an unsafe condition is identified.
Required Qualifications

- Ability to read tape measures, pressure ratings, hose laylines, fitting specifications, work orders, equipment manuals, test procedures, and basic technical drawings.
- Ability to identify common hose types, fittings, adapters, threads, flanges, and connection styles, or the ability to learn them quickly.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow written hydrostatic-testing procedures and understand the hazards associated with stored pressure.
- Ability to work independently in remote locations while following established procedures.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when selecting components, setting test pressures, reading gauges, and completing service and testing documentation.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional customer-service skills and the ability to work cooperatively with customer representatives and site personnel.
