Overview of the Role and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of patient reactions to medications, potential side effects, and appropriate dosages relevant to respiratory care. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with physicians, patients, nursing staff, allied health professionals, management, the public, and administrative personnel. The role requires the ability to instruct, evaluate, and reassess as necessary. Recognizing and reporting instances of patient abuse and neglect is crucial. A foundational knowledge of both dynamic and static pulmonary function values, along with an understanding of standard practices in respiratory care as directed by physicians for all age groups, is expected. The candidate should demonstrate proficiency in the delivery, setup, and maintenance of respiratory care equipment for both routine and non-routine applications. Responsibilities include conducting patient assessments and recommending suitable therapeutic and diagnostic procedures in accordance with departmental protocols. Additionally, the role involves establishing and assisting with the maintenance of arterial lines.

POPULATION SERVED:

This position serves all employees and staff at our facility, encompassing both clinical and non-clinical departments, as well as patients and their families, physicians, volunteers, agency personnel, contract workers, students, and the broader community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Utilizes knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and emergency protocols to ensure safe and effective respiratory care for patients.
• Adheres to strict infection control measures at all times.
• Facilitates in-service training for peers and staff at least four times annually and as required.
• Exhibits and promotes customer service skills in interactions with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Engages in Quality Improvement initiatives as assigned.
• Implements Assess and Treat Protocols.

Qualifications Required:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of starting employment.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification must be obtained within 30 days of starting employment.
• STABLE certification must be obtained within 30 days of starting employment.
• (NBRC-CRT) Certified Respiratory Therapist credential.
• Associate Degree.

No prior experience is necessary.
