Medical Laboratory Scientist

Medical Laboratory Scientists Perform a full range of simple-to-complex patient testing and laboratory services, specializing in one or more of the following disciplines: Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, Chemistry, Point of Care Testing, Transfusion Medicine, with minor duties in Microbiology. Specific Job Duties Perform laboratory procedures, recognize deviation from expected results, and ensure sample suitability and accuracy. Resolve inconsistencies and correct problems using scientific principles. Maintain laboratory equipment and instruments. Ensure quality control and functionality of instruments. Prepare the laboratory for inspection by regulatory agencies. Monitor, maintain, order, and stock laboratory supplies. Provide customer service by answering questions from patient providers about test processes, patient results, or sample collection techniques. Laboratory Training/Continuing Education All employees attend hospital orientation on the initial start date and then undergo an extensive training program in all laboratory disciplines pertinent to the specific position. The program is typically completed within the first 3 to 4 months of hire. Annual continuing education is provided by Willis Knighton and many instrument vendors, free of charge, enabling employees to obtain required annual CEUs. Job Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field with one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience. Must possess a valid Louisiana State License in Clinical Laboratory Science and certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), ASCP, or equivalent.
