Food Service Assistant The Town of Westerly Senior Center Department is accepting applications for the position of Food Service Assistant. The Food Service Assistant position will report to the Nutrition Site Manager/Transportation Manager. This position supports the daily nutrition program by helping with food preparation, assembling and serving meals to seniors, and maintaining kitchen sanitation. This position is responsible for assisting the Food Service Supervisor with daily food production, ensuring safety and sanitation compliance, and leading volunteer staff to provide meals at the senior center. Position Overview Assist the Food Service Supervisor in cutting, chopping, and preparing ingredients according to recipes. Inspects food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity, quality and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health standards. Set up the cafeteria/dining room, arrange tables, and plate or serve meals to participants while adhering to portion control. Assist in sanitizing the cafeteria/dining room area for daily meal(s) and/or special events. Assist in accepting and organizing meals and other food products or meal site supplies upon delivery. Ensure the kitchen equipment and kitchen area are clean and sanitized, including but not limited to assisting in the operation of the commercial dishwasher. Wash cookware, utensils, and serving dishes; sweep and mop kitchen and dining room floors. Monitor and record food and refrigerator temperatures to ensure compliance with health and food safety codes. Properly label, date, and store leftover food and supplies. Manual washing, when necessary, of pots, pans, and other cookware as required. Other duties as assigned to maintain the proper operation of the kitchen. Qualifications & Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in food service and food preparation. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position. Licenses and Certifications SERV Safe Food Manager certification or the ability to obtain one within one (1) month of hire.
