A Day in the Life
The Engineering Development Services team is looking for a Toolmaker II. This is a technical position requiring base knowledge experience in programming, setting up and running all types of machinery related to the machining industry. Must be able to read and interpret drawings and apply knowledge, experience, know-how, ingenuity and innovation to produce/manufacture required machined components. These components can be from simple to very complex.At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. We are working onsite a minimum of 4 days per week as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Program and run various CNC vertical machining centers, manual grinders, lathes and secondary operation equipment
- Prepare machine tool fixtures by analyzing drawings, sketches, models, and engineering or shop specifications
- Use a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments to compute dimensions and determine tolerances
- Perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions, revising designs, and problem solves as needed
- Monitor and verify quality and safety according to Medtronic's standards
The job work hours are: 1st shift
Nice to Have
- 3+ years of experience in the manufacture of gages, tools, fixtures, or related machining
- Vertical CNC machining center experience including 3 axis
- Manual machine experience including mills, lathes and grinders
- Tool and Die apprenticeship certification or equivalent formal training
- Understands cutting tool geometry and applications
- Reads and comprehends advanced drawings with GD&T
- Use surface plate, sine plates, and height gage to setup and verify work
- Ability to conceptualize and sketch tools, fixtures, and gages
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well under pressure and maintain positive, enthusiastic attitude
- Eagerness to learn and expand responsibilities
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
- 2 year technical degree in Machine Tool Technology or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience of relevant experience
- Base knowledge in programming using CAD/CAM software
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$55,200.00 - $82,800.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
