Respiratory Therapist - PRN

About this Job General Summary of Position Possesses and demonstrates adequate knowledge to provide respiratory care to all patient populations with techniques appropriate to chronological, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Respiratory care is delivered in accordance with physician orders and established standards of practice and protocols. Schedule PRN – Minimum three 12‑hour shifts per 6‑week schedule, including two 12‑hour weekend shifts (7AM–7:30PM; 7PM–7:30AM). Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to the achievement of departmental goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Assesses the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of patients and documents educational needs appropriately. Performs respiratory therapy treatments and services, including application, operation, monitoring, and management of all equipment and services; services include oxygen‑mixed gas and humidity, monitoring, invasive and non‑invasive ventilators, bronchial hygiene, lung expansion, spirometry testing, EKG machines, and blood gas analysis. Employs principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing techniques, problem‑solving, and crisis intervention during patient care. Reviews electronic medical records and physician orders throughout the shift. Responds to and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintaining the airway, providing oxygen and ventilation via mask, endotracheal tube, or other devices, and performing closed‑chest cardiac massage. Facilitates workflow efficiency, monitors interdepartmental systems, evaluates departmental policies and procedures, and makes recommendations for improvement. Performs other duties and responsibilities as appropriate to the position and area. Complies with all policies and standards, utilises organizational resources efficiently, and refers to competency validation documents when applicable. Qualifications Education Associate’s degree—graduate of an AMA‑accredited program in respiratory care with an AAS degree or higher (required). Bachelor’s degree—Baccalaureate degree in a related healthcare field (preferred). Experience Less than 1 year acute‑care experience; registry‑eligible (required). Licenses and Certifications RCP—Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner; must maintain license to practice in Maryland and/or the District of Columbia (required). CRT—Certified Respiratory Therapist; licensed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (required). RRT—Registered Respiratory Therapist; licensed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (preferred). CPR—Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers, within 90 days (required). ACLS—Advanced Cardiac Life Support; other related certifications required within 1 year. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology as related to respiratory care. Knowledge of operation of respiratory care equipment and its clinical application. Ability to assess hazardous conditions related to respiratory care and take corrective action. Ability to work with patients of all ages (neonatal to geriatrics). Ability to remain calm and function under stressful conditions. Must work well as a team member, be articulate, and communicate effectively with all types of people. Compensation Hiring range: USD $35.68 – USD $64.71 per hour. #J-18808-Ljbffr
