Police Officer

Department of Public Safety open until filled. Primary duties include performing proactive police work involving the protection and safety of the community through prevention and control of crime, preserving peace, regulating traffic, and providing emergency services. Reports to Captain of Police. Full time position with benefits including take home patrol unit, night differential wage, Sunday premium wage, full coverage health insurance, competitive 401k package. Special assignment and advancement opportunities include Emergency Response Team, Dive Team, K-9 Handler, Patrol Sergeant, Narcotic Task Force, SAR Team.

Essential duties and responsibilities include enforcing Tribal and Federal laws on the Red Lake Reservation, maintaining technical competence in areas of assigned responsibilities, organizing and recording relevant information, responding to all calls as directed by dispatch, safeguarding scenes, preserving evidence, identifying and obtaining information from witnesses, developing preliminary investigative leads, enforcing all laws and regulations, assisting with traffic control at accident scenes, community events and celebrations, proficient with report writing, assisting in serving court process, appearing and testifying in Tribal or Federal Court as needed, and performing other duties as assigned.

Education/work experience/qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, basic knowledge of general office equipment and computers, excellent verbal, organizational and written communications skills, ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner, ability to communicate with the public in a professionally courteous manner at all times, ability to work independently and follow directions, good work attendance, ethics and dependability, valid Minnesota Driver's License, compliance with drug testing in accordance with the Red Lake Band's Personnel Policy and background check, adherence to and knowledge of the Data Privacy Act, high moral character to uphold the integrity of the court, ability to work cooperatively with the Victim Advocate, other Law Enforcement Officers and personnel to ensure that services to victims are made available to them in a timely and respectful manner, and legal certification to carry firearms.
