Department: PCMG-MAIN | PCMG Resource Pool Location: Phoenix Shift: Mon-Fri, Days, 8am-5pm Category: Medical Assistants Posting #: 1024308 Employee Type: PRN Position Summary The Medical Assistant – Certified works under the direction of a licensed health care professional and performs various clinical and administrative tasks for the assigned area. The Certified Medical Assistant must carry out the mission, vision, and values of Phoenix Children’s, maintain professionalism, uphold ethical conduct, and collaborate interdepartmentally. A current certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or American Medical Technologists (RMA) is required. Position Duties Clinical responsibilities: Measure and record vital signs, growth parameters, medical histories, and symptoms into the electronic health record. Communicate patient information to the licensed health care provider. Perform electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, and other diagnostic tests within scope. Collect laboratory specimens (including blood specimens). Perform point‑of‑care testing. Prepare and administer medications with provider authorization and follow regulations for storage, mixing, disposal, inventory, and labeling. Perform routine screening tests. Assist the provider with exams. Remove sutures, change dressings, apply bandages, and perform other first‑aid procedures. Educate patients about examinations, diagnostic tests, medications, special diets, and health maintenance. Dispose of bio‑hazardous materials per OSHA and hospital policies. Demonstrate infection control standards including hand washing and standard precautions; ensure equipment in exam rooms is cleaned per hospital policies. Follow Phoenix Children’s and OSHA safety rules at all times. Uphold HIPAA regulations. Administrative responsibilities: Communicate prescriptions to pharmacies. Process medication refills as directed by a provider and per hospital policies. Obtain prior authorizations for medication and durable medical equipment. Screen telephone calls and take accurate clinical messages within scope and per policies. Return patient calls with provider‑directed instructions. Assist patients and providers in completing documentation and any required paperwork. Utilize medication reconciliation tools within the electronic health record. Clean and restock exam rooms. Serve as an eligible witness to cycle counting and wastage of controlled substances, when assigned. Follow appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct. Additional duties: Maintain current certifications, company‑mandated training, and professional development. Float to other practices as needed by hospital and/or management requests. Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested. Position Qualifications Education Graduate of a Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP, ABHES, or another approved institution. MA certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants or American Medical Technologists in lieu of graduation. Experience One year of experience in a health care or pediatric setting. Additional Requirements Medical Assistant Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or American Medical Technologists (RMA). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Professionals from the American Heart Association.
