Senior Application DBA - Vice President Pune, Maharashtra, India Hybrid Job Overview Senior App DBA VP - Data Platform and Data Strategy We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Application Database Administrator (App DBA) at the Vice President level to join our Data Platform and Data Strategy team. This role is critical for the design, development, and performance optimization of large‑scale data solutions, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our critical data infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and performance tuning of complex, large‑scale database solutions within the Data Platform and Data Strategy domain. Collaborate closely with CTI DBA and Windows SA domain experts to coordinate and ensure seamless execution of database patching and other essential maintenance activities. Define and establish comprehensive requirements for maintainability, performance, security, quality, and usability across the data platform, including backup strategies, archival processes, and routine DBA operations. Optimize existing applications on SQL Server and Oracle platforms to achieve peak performance and efficiency. Develop, document, and evangelize robust database standards for adoption across the organization. Conduct in‑depth analysis of complex issues, providing actionable recommendations and driving effective solutions even when the optimal path is not immediately apparent. Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience Database Expertise: Proficient in Oracle 19c and later versions. Operating Systems: Strong command of Unix environments. Version Control & Scheduling: Experience with GitHub and Autosys. Scripting & ETL: Fundamental knowledge and practical experience with Python/Unix scripting and ETL processes. Problem‑Solving: Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a proven track record of identifying trends and ensuring data quality. Work Ethic: Highly self‑motivated, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and adept at managing multiple priorities under pressure. Overall IT Experience: 10+ years of progressive IT experience, with a significant focus on database administration. DBA Fundamentals: Extensive exposure to routine basic DBA activities. Performance Tuning: Expertise in database monitoring and server‑level performance tuning. SQL & Data Modeling: Strong understanding of database fundamentals and advanced concepts, with the ability to write efficient SQL queries and optimize existing ones. Proven data modeling experience (OLAP, OLTP, Logical/Physical Modeling, Normalization, performance tuning). Automation: Demonstrated experience in automating routine DBA tasks using Unix/Python scripting. Data Lifecycle: Experience in data migration and data integration projects. Software Engineering: Comprehensive knowledge of software engineering principles. Industry Experience: Experience in the Finance Industry is a must. SDLC: Proficient with all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle. Nice to Have Familiarity with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Elasticsearch. Knowledge of various cache technologies. Experience with other ETL tools. Knowledge of agile (Scrum) development methodologies. Understanding of system‑level concepts including data structures, algorithms, distributed storage, and compute. A “can‑do” attitude towards solving complex business problems, coupled with excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
