Number of Beds: 30 (22 Acute Care, 8 Stepdown)

Patient Ratios

• Acute Care: 6:1
• Neuro Stepdown: 4:1

Unit Staffing Description

The unit is staffed with:

• 1 RN Charge Nurse overseeing the entire 10 Tower
• 1-2 Nursing Technicians
• 1 Unit Secretary

Equipment

Acute Care Side: Vital sign monitors, high flow oxygen, chest tubes, suction devices, and various drips tailored for stroke patients.

Neuro Stepdown: Vapotherm, BiPAP machines, trach care, and titrating cardiac drips.

Documentation System

The unit utilizes Meditech for documentation.

Scheduling Requirements

Schedule arrangements may vary, and weekend shifts are required. Floating policies allow experienced nurses to float after completing orientation.

Patient Experience Requirements

Provide bedside shift reports, foster personal connections with patients, and participate in daily huddles to enhance patient care.

Certifications

Mandatory certifications include:

• BLS (Basic Life Support) for Acute Care
• BLS and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) for Neuro Stepdown

Desired Skill Set

Must Have: Strong nursing skills in acute care and effective time management.

Preferred: Experience in Neuro Stepdown.

Advanced Skills Needed: Strong critical thinking abilities are essential.

Procedures Performed on Unit

Common procedures include lumbar punctures and chest tube placements.

Dress Code

Unit staff can wear black, any shade of blue or grey, and any color scrubs on Fridays.
