Computational Biologist II – DFCI Sarcoma Center The Sarcoma Center at Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), in partnership with the Getz Lab (Broad Institute) and the Janeway Lab (DFCI), seeks an experienced computational biologist with a strong background in cancer biology to lead projects focused on osteosarcoma and leiomyosarcoma. The position will primarily analyze genomic data for leiomyosarcoma to identify unique factors influencing oncogenesis, prognosis, and treatment response, using datasets including whole‑genome sequencing (WGS), whole‑exome sequencing (WES), RNA‑Seq, spatial data, and clinical annotations. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and clinicians. You will be expected to design, execute, and refine data‑analysis strategies, develop new methods for data integration, and translate findings into clinical insights. Mentoring of post‑doctoral trainees and junior team members is part of the role. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and execution of data‑analysis pipelines for multi‑type genomic data. Explore and develop tools for novel data types, including spatial and other emerging analytics. Create and apply new computational methods for integrating data, predicting tumor outcomes, subtypes, mechanisms, and therapy response. Conceive, implement, and test statistical models; analyze experimental data. Present results to diverse audiences, including non‑computational researchers. Prepare written reports, manuscripts, grant sections, patents, and presentation materials. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field; PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or related quantitative discipline preferred. 2–3 years of biologically focused research experience, with a preference for cancer genomic analysis. Strong computational and statistical skills, including programming in Python, R, or Matlab. Experience with algorithm development, data analysis, and statistical modeling. Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to non‑technical audiences. Fast learner, analytical thinker, creative, hands‑on, and a team player. Background in machine learning or biology is a plus. Knowledge of cancer genomics is a plus but not required; strong desire to acquire such knowledge. Core Competencies Proficient in UNIX/Linux. Strong scripting and statistical programming skills in Python and R. Experience with experimental design principles and modern data‑analysis pipelines. Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to work with multidisciplinary teams. Excellent analytical, organizational, and time‑management abilities. Employment Conditions Location: Boston, Massachusetts. The field‑based responsibilities include collaboration at DFCI, Broad Institute, and Massachusetts General Hospital. Salary range: $85,000.00 – $105,000.00, based on experience and qualifications.
