JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Radiologic Technologist independently provides knowledge and competence in a variety of diagnostic imaging technologies. Performs and conducts moderate-to-complex diagnostic radiology procedures using operating radiographic equipment. Performs a variety of diagnostic radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures to reach a medical diagnosis and decision. Ensures that equipment is constantly functional and ready for immediate use. Maintains records and reports on equipment, procedures performed, and billing. Works under the guidance of Radiologists; participates in the resident training program and may be responsible for specific areas of instruction in the training of Radiology students, house staff, or others, in diagnostic imaging procedures, protocols, and equipment and/or safety issues. May serve as a preceptor for Radiologic Technologists in training. Primary responsibility is to ensure the safest and highest quality patient care by performing a range of essential tasks. This includes patient screening, thorough preparation, education, and the delivery of imaging services. Operates various imaging and ancillary equipment and manages information systems. Meticulous adherence to established policies and department‑specific processes and procedures is expected to maintain the highest standards of medical imaging excellence. Commitment to professionalism is essential for fostering a compassionate and respectful environment for patients, families, and staff. Plays a crucial role in accurately documenting procedures to ensure the protection of patient health information (PHI) and the integrity of data. This position involves working collaboratively under the guidance of department leaders to provide exceptional patient care and uphold the highest standards in medical imaging.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform and conduct a variety of diagnostic radiology procedures on patients using operating radiographic equipment. Perform a variety of diagnostic radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures to reach a medical diagnosis and decision. Perform routine/non‑complex diagnostic imaging procedures (bone age and surveys, G‑Tube Check Bedside, Scan‑o‑gram/Leg Length, Scoliosis, Shunt Series, and OR Foreign Body). Perform routine/non‑complex diagnostic imaging protocols (Portable, Fluoroscopy, Radiation Protection, Student Instructions, Pregnancy Testing, and Wet Reading). Perform routine/non‑complex fluoroscopy exams including portacaths and intussusceptions. Perform moderate‑to‑complex diagnostic imaging procedures, protocols and exams (iCAT Modality). Prepare patients for diagnostic radiology exams, explain procedures, ensure patient screening is properly completed, safely transport patients to imaging equipment, properly position patients, and assist patients upon completion of exams; complete exams in the required timeframe. Troubleshoot equipment problems and, when necessary, report to the proper personnel for repair. Utilize ancillary equipment appropriately: PACS system, laser camera, MedRad power injector, IDXRad, and Invivo monitor. Use appropriate techniques and equipment for accurate diagnosis, as instructed by department leaders and radiologists. Ensure consistent and reliable imaging results and verify images meet diagnostic standards. Explain procedures, verify forms, transport patients safely, position them correctly, and provide post‑exam instructions within specified timeframes. Report major problems for repair and properly utilize ancillary equipment such as imaging coils, transducers, power injectors, and monitors. Maintain essential paperwork and records; properly document charges and statistical codes to account for labor and supplies used. Record and promptly escalated incidents related to patient safety, equipment malfunctions, and other relevant categories. Assist in protocoling, forecasting, and preparation for diagnostic imaging cases by following department standard operating procedures. Maintain a clean, safe, and efficiently operating department through assigned duties and responsibilities. Report abnormal findings, artifacts, and adverse events to the relevant radiologist or department leader for further evaluation and action. Adhere to modality‑specific protocols and monitor radiation dose levels during imaging procedures. Test and calibrate equipment to maintain image quality standards. Explain exams thoroughly to patients and their families, and promptly address concerns and provide reassurance to patients and families during procedures. Stay current with advancements in radiologic technology, patient care, and department‑specific techniques. Handle patient data and images in compliance with privacy regulations, ensuring confidentiality and security. Respond to emergency situations within the department, such as contrast reactions or patient distress. Collabrique with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care and effective teamwork. Promote a positive and enjoyable work environment by encouraging camaraderie and fun within the department. Assist in department onboarding of Radiology students, house staff, or others, in diagnostic imaging procedures, protocols, equipment and/or safety issues. Bills all procedures performed and maintains necessary paperwork.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education: Associate Degree in applicable field (e.g., diagnostic imaging). Experience: Three (3) years of progressive responsibility and directly related work experience. License/Certification: Registered Technologist – Radiography ARRT (R) from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) by the State of California Department of Health (CDPH). Certified Radiologic Technologist Fluoroscopy (RTF) by the State of California Department of Health (CDPH). Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).

KNOWLEDGE

Proficiently performs a range of general and specialized diagnostic procedures to meet quality standards. Capably identifies and resolves equipment issues, documents problems, and communicates them effectively. Collaborates effectively within a team environment, contributing to group dynamics and achieving common goals. Possesses knowledge of computer systems and relevant software in the functional area. Demonstrates knowledge of medical imaging principles, techniques, and equipment. Proficient in patient and equipment positioning for imaging procedures. Understands the principles of image processing and development applicable to diagnostic imaging. Recognizes and follows safety principles and procedures related to imaging procedures and equipment and prioritizes patient and staff safety.

PAY RANGE

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
