Diesel Service Technician

Repairs and maintains diesel engine industrial trucks according to dealership and factory specifications.

Essential duties include performing work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, diagnosing cause of any malfunction and performing repair, communicating with parts department to obtain needed parts, saving and tagging parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer, examining assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended, documenting all work performed and recommended on the repair order, road testing vehicles when required, participating in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events, keeping abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins, supervising work of any apprentice technicians as assigned, reporting machinery defects or malfunctions to the foreman, ensuring that customers' vehicle is kept clean, keeping shop area neat and clean, maintaining and being accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, understanding, keeping abreast of and complying with federal, state and local regulations, operating all tools and equipment in a safe manner, reporting any safety issues immediately to management, and other tasks as assigned.

Education and/or experience: Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Brakes Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck Preferred, Diesel Engines Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck Preferred, Drive Train Certification for Eaton and Meritor Preferred, Electrical/Electronic Systems Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck Preferred, Heating and Air Conditioning Certification for Commercial Truck Preferred, Manual Drive Train and Axle Certification for Auto/Light Truck Preferred, State Emission Certification Preferred, State Vehicle Inspector Certification Preferred, Paccar MX Certification Preferred, Cummins Engine Certification on ISB, ISC & ISX 2150 through 2350 Preferred, Preventive Maintenance Inspection Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck Preferred, Suspension and Steering Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck - Preferred.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or industry regulations.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to read a Multi-Meter.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Experience: 1-2 years: Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses & Certifications: Required Drivers License. Preferred CDL.
