This role works collaboratively with consumers and their care teams to identify vocational goals, remove barriers to employment, and provide ongoing job development and support services.Using a person-centered approach, the Employment Specialist helps individuals explore employment opportunities, secure jobs, and maintain long-term success in the workplace.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide person-centered employment services in collaboration with consumers, families, and care teamsAssist individuals in identifying career interests, strengths, and employment goalsSupport job search activities, job placement, and retentionDevelop and maintain relationships with community employersProvide education and support to employers, including job accommodationsDeliver job coaching and follow-along supportsSpend at least 60% of time in the community engaging with clients and employersMaintain accurate documentation, including progress notes and service recordsParticipate in team meetings to integrate employment services into treatment planningPromote supported employment services within the communityAssist with transportation needs as requiredSupport and train job coaches or other staff as neededQualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent requiredExperience:Preferred: Two (2) years working with individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disordersExperience in job development, vocational services, or workforce engagement preferredSkills & Requirements:Strong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to engage effectively with individuals and employersKnowledge of supported employment practices preferredValid driver’s license and acceptable driving recordReliable transportation preferredBasic computer and documentation skillsAbility to work occasional evenings or weekendsLived experience with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders is valued.Physical RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 lbsAbility to drive and travel within the communityReasonable accommodations provided in accordance with applicable lawsAbout UsNeMCMHA has proudly served Alpena, Alcona, Presque Isle, and Montmorency counties since 1968.
