Texas NeuroRehab Center is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres. Originally a cattle ranch, the land was purchased in 1943 as part of The Brown Schools and has operated as a medical rehabilitation and behavioral healthcare facility for over 80 years. Today, Texas NeuroRehab Center provides complex medical and brain and spinal cord injury rehab for ages 13 years and older and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges. Texas NeuroRehab Center is internationally known for improving the quality of life for many children; adolescents and adults, and it will continue to provide innovative approaches to neurobehavioral healthcare.

Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applicants for a Patient Care Technician-7a-7p. Under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) the patient care technician (PCT) provides services related to activities of daily living. The PCT assists the nursing staff in accordance with facility policies and procedures. The PCT assists in maintaining a well organized, clean, and adequately stocked unit.

Job Duties:

• Accompanies & actively supervises patients in activities of daily living (ADLs), appointments, & recreational activities that occur both on & off the living unit.
• Actively assists therapists & teachers with patients to provide therapeutic & / or educational activities.
• Provides hands-on physical care, supervision, crisis intervention, behavior management, & behavior modification as directed by the individual treatment plan & unit program guidelines.

Qualifications:

The following are the job requirements for the Patient Care Technician position:

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

• Demonstrates understanding of Texas NeuroRehab Center's safety initiatives by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
• Works autonomously and with supervision.
• Interfaces with the public, physicians, staff, patients, and administration and ancillary/support department representatives.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient medical records.
• Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients.

EDUCATION:

• Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: bachelor's degree or college courses in health care, mental health, recreational therapy, education, or human growth and development

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

• Required: Current Driver's licenses or State issued ID. BLS certification.

PHYSICAL/GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to lift and carry 50 pounds with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Able to physically restrain patients by individual or team restraint per policy.
• Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
• Able to use a computer and/or write for extended periods of time.
• Hearing, vision, and emotional stability sufficient to perform essential job functions.
• Able to communicate in writing and verbally and to speak clearly such that others can understand.
• Able to use the phone for extended periods of time.
• Regular and expected attendance.
