Position Summary

The Seattle Colleges are looking for innovative and dedicated faculty members who have a demonstrated commitment to working within a college community that is diverse and serves students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds. Faculty will teach part-time in a wide range of humanities courses. Successful applicants will have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding in an urban environment.

Successful applicants may be invited to interview at one of the colleges in the Seattle Colleges District, North Seattle, Seattle Central, or South Seattle. Specific teaching assignments will be dependent on the instructor's background, scheduling, and available courses.

Candidates should be willing to teach in a variety of formats such as in-class, hybrid, online and varied class times including days, evenings, and weekends according to program needs.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Seattle.

The salary range for part-time faculty is (generally P1: A1- E7): $7,703 - $11,537.33 (for a 5-credit single-class workload per quarter). Target start rate of pay is $7,703 - $8,912 (for a 5-credit single-class workload per quarter) A1-C3

  • An attached resume outlining your educational and teaching experience
  • Philosophy of teaching statement demonstrating a commitment to supporting diverse student learners (no more than one page)
  • Unofficial transcripts (graduate school only)
  • List of courses taught by college and year/quarter (Word file or Excel file)
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from a reference who can speak to your teaching experience.
  • Provide teaching evaluations from a class with least 10 student-respondents.
  • An attached cover letter addressing how you meet the duties, responsibilities, and requirements for the position
  • Contact information for three professional references

Please note that Seattle Colleges has moved to holding interviews virtually using video conference options such as Zoom or Teams. As such, if you are selected for an interview, please be prepared to hold your interview virtually.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
  • Utilize appropriate educational technologies and communication tools to support teaching, learning, and administrative responsibilities.
  • Uphold the mission and values of Seattle Colleges by supporting student achievement and contributing to a positive learning environment.
  • Maintain and submit required documentation such as course information, academic credentials, and professional references as part of the application and employment process.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to teach, for example, Intercultural Communication, Cultural Studies, American Ethnic Studies, Film, and Media.
  • Master's Degree or PhD in the field or related field from an accredited institution, or workforce experience in the field or related field. (Please read the position announcement carefully when applying for possible part-time teaching positions, to find those that best match your education and experience.)
  • Willingness to teach in multiple modes and times (e.g. online, hybrid, evening, weekends).
  • A demonstrated commitment to working within a college community that is diverse and serves students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds.
  • Innovative teaching methods including the use of technology and collaborative learning.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others in a professional setting.
  • An understanding of the goals and role of the community college.
