Assembly Manufacturing Engineer (Contract)

Location: Shelby Township, MI
Job Type: Contract (6 Months) – Potential for Extension or Direct Hire
Schedule: Full-Time

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for a 6-month contract opportunity at our Shelby Township manufacturing facility, with the possibility of extension or direct hire. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes, equipment, and production systems to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing environment, strong problem-solving abilities, and a passion for continuous improvement. You will work closely with operations, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to support production and drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and improve manufacturing processes and production systems.
• Monitor operational performance metrics and analyze data to improve equipment efficiency and process capability.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and lead root cause analysis and 8D problem-solving activities.
• Coordinate equipment buyoffs, installation, transfers, validation, and production ramp-up activities.
• Develop and maintain manufacturing work instructions, process documentation, and standard operating procedures.
• Perform process validation, testing, and production monitoring to ensure consistent performance.
• Conduct risk assessments and identify continuous improvement opportunities using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S methodologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new equipment, technologies, and manufacturing processes.
• Establish and support production safety procedures and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Estimate production costs for new equipment and manufacturing processes.
• Support equipment maintenance activities and coordinate with equipment manufacturers when necessary.
• Stay current on industry trends and emerging manufacturing technologies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• Minimum of 4 years of manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and production systems.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S principles.
• Ability to analyze manufacturing data and drive process improvements.
• Experience with equipment validation, production launches, and process optimization.
• PLC knowledge or troubleshooting experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
