Truck Driver PVA District

The PVA Truck Driver will provide safe, orderly, and efficient transportation of equipment to and from schools and on extracurricular trips during the Fall marching band and football season. All employees of Spring ISD are expected to be service-oriented, relationship-centered and outcome-driven. They are required to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, champion the needs of our students and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Class A Texas Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements
• Current Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification
• Clean driving record with no moving violations
• Must pass a background check and drug test

Preferred:

• 2+ years of proven experience in commercial truck driving preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Working knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance
• Skill to perform manual tasks associated with engine maintenance, tire replacement, fuel dispensing, washing vehicles, etc.
• Skill in operating various machines in repairing vehicles
• Ability to locate problems
• Ability to physically perform minor repairs
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles
• Comfortable maneuvering and parking a tractor-trailer
• Alert, focused, and detail-oriented
• Possess great physical stamina and focus during long driving shifts
• Comfortable with long-haul transport

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned vehicle
• Drive trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) over 26,000 lbs.
• Pull a towed weight exceeding 10,000 lbs.
• Ensure trailer hitch is properly and securely attached to the tractor unit
• Transport goods and equipment from the place of origin to assigned destination
• Pick-up loads and organizes goods in an ordered, logical manner
• Ensure contents are properly secured inside of the truck to prevent breakage or damage
• Safely and efficiently handle and unload goods at selected destinations
• Stay on a predetermined route and ensure timely deliveries
• Communicate with dispatch as needed
• Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip
• Check weather conditions and road reports before departure
• Always ensure your vehicle is kept clean
• Maintain and service vehicle as needed (refuel, change oil, tire pressure, repairs, etc.)
• Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered
• Follow delivery schedule and rest at appropriate times
• Track and report working hours
• Adhere to Spring ISD rules and regulations
• Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive according to the weather/road conditions
• Comply with ICC and DOT regulations
• Make safety a priority at all times

Working Conditions:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district and occasional statewide travel; prolonged and irregular hours. Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to perform evacuation procedures; continuous sitting, reaching, bending; repetitive hand and arm motions; work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures (heat); exposure to vehicle fumes. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
