Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages, including those with multisystem disease and complex treatment needs, while maintaining full accountability for all clinical decisions made during the shift.
• Conduct thorough nursing assessments through interviewing, observation, and the nursing process; document findings including review of body systems, laboratory results, diagnostic findings, and interdisciplinary input.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare team members; transcribe and accurately note provider orders and give shift reports per guidelines.
• Provide patient and family education regarding tests, procedures, disease processes, and discharge instructions; participate in in-services and departmental educational programs.
• Communicate constructively with staff, patients, significant others, and the broader healthcare team; assist in orienting new staff and travelers and serve as Contact RN when assigned, providing leadership to assigned RNs and CNAs.
• Maintain all required certifications, licensure, and mandatory competencies; attend and participate in at least 50% of departmental staff meetings and comply with scheduling and dress code guidelines.

Required Qualifications

• Valid, current, full, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alaska — must be active at time of submission.
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required upon hire; ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
• Current flu vaccination required.
• Demonstrated competency in recognizing emergently ill patients and adverse signs and symptoms, with the ability to act promptly in emergency situations.
• Knowledge of nursing care principles, practices, and processes including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in an emergency care setting.
• Proficiency in assisting with emergency procedures such as intubations, arterial line setup, arterial blood gas puncture, and operation of specialty equipment including defibrillators, EKG machines, and ventilators.

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience.
• Prior experience in an Emergency Department or relevant specialty area.
• TNCC/ATCN and NRP certifications are a plus.
