Job Description
The Maintenance Technician performs inspections, installations, repairs, and rebuilds on plant operating equipment in a large industrial manufacturing facility. This role reads and interprets equipment manuals, drawings, and work orders to complete both scheduled and emergency maintenance tasks. The technician focuses on preventative maintenance and routine checks on a wide range of production equipment, including pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, pumps, fillers, agitators, motors, pug mills, hammer mills, and fans, while ensuring safe and efficient plant operations.

Work Environment
The role is based in a large industrial manufacturing facility that produces masonry and hardscape products, including bricks, retaining walls, paver patios, and concrete masonry units. The facility is covered but features open doors and a kiln firing brick throughout the day, resulting in a warm to hot environment; temperature-regulating systems and fans are in place, though conditions can still be demanding. The work involves regular exposure to large manufacturing equipment, furnaces, and heavy machinery, and may require operating heavy equipment as part of maintenance tasks. Technicians work with a variety of industrial tools and technologies, including hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, oxygen/acetylene and plasma cutting equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, three-phase electrical systems, and industrial control components. The position requires flexibility to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, on-call assignments, and overtime, supporting continuous plant operations in a unionized environment.

Job Description
The Maintenance Technician performs inspections, installations, repairs, and rebuilds on plant operating equipment in a large industrial manufacturing facility. The technician focuses on preventative maintenance and routine checks on a wide range of production equipment, including pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, pumps, fillers, agitators, motors, pug mills, hammer mills, and fans, while ensuring safe and efficient plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections, installations, repairs, and rebuilds on plant operating equipment by reading and interpreting equipment manuals, technical drawings, and work orders.
- Complete emergency and unscheduled repairs on production equipment to minimize downtime and maintain continuous operations.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and routine checks on production equipment, including pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, pumps, fillers, agitators, motors, pug mills, hammer mills, fans, and related machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control problems on industrial equipment and implement effective repairs.
- Use hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively to perform maintenance tasks and equipment repairs.
- Cut, weld, and fabricate parts and components as needed to repair or modify equipment, including working with wire feed and rod welding processes.
- Splice belts and assemble or repair chains to support material handling and conveyor systems.
- Use torches and cutting equipment, including oxygen/acetylene and plasma cutting, to remove, modify, or fabricate components.
- Disassemble and rebuild multiple types of equipment, ensuring proper reassembly, alignment, and functionality.
- Detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment using mechanical and electrical troubleshooting methods.
- Work with mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical components, including three-phase systems and basic PLC troubleshooting.
- Support LEAN implementation and actively engage in lean activities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and workplace organization.
- Effectively handle multiple priorities and maintenance tasks with minimum supervision while maintaining accurate documentation of work performed.
- Work safely around large manufacturing equipment and furnaces and operate heavy equipment as necessary to complete maintenance work.
- Follow instructions, adhere to safety procedures, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Proven experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work on mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and production machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Proficiency in mechanical troubleshooting and the ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
- Ability to disassemble and rebuild multiple types of industrial equipment accurately and safely.
- Minimum capability to cut, weld, and fabricate components as part of maintenance and repair work.
- Experience using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools in an industrial setting.
- Ability to work any shift and remain flexible to varying schedules, including on-call work, weekends, nights, and overtime as required.
- Comfort working around large manufacturing equipment and furnaces and operating heavy equipment when needed.
- Ability to follow instructions, remain teachable and trainable, and work with minimal supervision.
- Strong troubleshooting ability, including mechanical and basic electrical troubleshooting, particularly in an industrial environment.
- Capability to support and participate in LEAN implementation and continuous improvement activities.
- Electrical maintenance experience, including three-phase systems and electrical troubleshooting, is a significant plus.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting in an industrial environment is highly desirable.
- Experience splicing belts and making or repairing chains for conveyor and material handling systems.
- Experience cutting using torches, including oxygen/acetylene and plasma cutting equipment.
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in industrial production machinery.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Prior experience in a heavy industrial, masonry, or materials manufacturing environment is beneficial.
- Experience working within a unionized environment is an asset.
