Job Description Job Description About the Role The Class B Operator and Trash Truck Driver plays a critical role in maintaining community cleanliness and environmental health by safely operating Class B vehicles to collect and transport waste materials. This position requires the individual to navigate various routes efficiently while adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations to ensure timely and secure waste disposal. The role demands a strong commitment to customer service, as drivers often interact with residents and businesses during collection. Additionally, the operator is responsible for performing routine vehicle inspections and basic maintenance to guarantee operational reliability. Ultimately, this position contributes significantly to public health and sanitation by ensuring waste is managed responsibly and effectively.Minimum Qualifications: Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements as required by state regulations. Proven experience operating Class B vehicles, preferably in waste management or a related field. Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and enroll in random drug screening/pre-employment testing. Strong knowledge of traffic laws, safety regulations, and vehicle operation standards. Capability to perform physical tasks associated with waste collection, including lifting and handling heavy materials. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with route navigation and GPS technology to optimize collection efficiency. Familiarity with environmental regulations related to waste disposal and recycling. Previous experience in customer service or community-facing roles. Basic mechanical skills for minor vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting. Certification in workplace safety or defensive driving courses. Responsibilities: Operate Class B vehicles, including trash trucks, to collect residential and commercial waste along assigned routes. Ensure safe loading, transportation, and unloading of waste materials in compliance with company policies and environmental regulations. Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns. Maintain accurate records of routes, collections, and any incidents encountered during operations. Provide courteous and professional customer service when interacting with the public and address any concerns or inquiries promptly. Adhere strictly to all local, state, and federal traffic laws and safety standards to minimize risks and ensure safe operations. Assist with the maintenance and cleanliness of the vehicle and equipment to promote longevity and operational efficiency. Skills: The required skills enable the operator to safely and efficiently maneuver Class B vehicles through diverse routes while managing waste collection tasks. Strong driving skills combined with knowledge of safety regulations ensure compliance and reduce the risk of accidents. Physical stamina and coordination are essential for handling waste materials and operating vehicle equipment effectively. Preferred skills such as route navigation and mechanical aptitude enhance daily operations by improving efficiency and minimizing downtime. Additionally, interpersonal skills support positive interactions with the community, fostering trust and professionalism in the role.
