Transportation Planning Specialist

Job Description Maine Department of Transportation (Maine DOT) salary: $58,801.60 - $82,555.20 per year Office/Bureau: Bureau of Planning Opening Date: September 28, 2026 Closing Date: October 28, 2026 This is professional services work in overseeing and providing comprehensive training, technical assistance and education for Maine’s Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) otherwise known as the Maine Local Roads Center (MLRC). The position provides technical assistance and training to Maine’s municipal local road officials. Typical Duties Planning, developing, coordinating presenters and conducting workshops for local road officials. Providing daily technical assistance on many road subjects by phone or email. Developing specific computer programs and providing technical support for them. Assisting with writing and producing a statewide newsletter for local road officials in addition to our MLRC website occasionally participating in National, Regional, and local meetings and conferences concerning MLRC activities. Minimum Qualifications An eight (8) year combination of education, training, and/or experience in planning and program development with specific background in specialized field as necessary (i.e. environmental planning, economic planning, historic preservation, etc.). Health Insurance Premium Credit – Participation decreases employee-only premiums by up to 5%. Dental Insurance – The State of Maine pays 100% of employee-only dental premiums ($358.08 annual value). Retirement Plan – The State contributes the equivalent of 14.06% of the employee's pay towards the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS).
