Location: Brushton-Moira Central School Bus Garage

Dates for accepting applications: Continuous

Dates of beginning employment: Immediately

Salary: $22.50/Hour

Minimum qualifications in school districts: Candidate must possess the appropriate level New York State Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger ("P") and School ("S") endorsements at the time of application and must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application. Note: In addition, candidates must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the New York Codes, Rules and Regulation Title 8, 156.3.

Reports to: School Business Executive/ Transportation Assistant/Lead Driver

Job goal: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular program.

Major duties:

• Obey all traffic laws.
• Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintains discipline when students are on bus.
• Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
• Keeps assigned bus clean.
• Keeps to assigned schedule.
• Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
• Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
• Discharges students only at authorized stops.
• Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
• Transports only authorized students.
• Reports all incidents and completes required reports.
• Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
• Attends all scheduled meetings for the purpose of physicals, safety, and run selections.
• Observes all contractual obligations.
• Does occasional pick-up and delivery of materials for the district.
• Does related work as required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Knowledge of all traffic laws, regulations, road signs and related information.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus, conduct pre-trip inspections, and clean the bus.
• Visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if needed.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
• Ability to learn and comprehend information from procedures manuals and other materials.
• Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs required.
• Ability to physically move through the bus, center and classrooms.
• Ability to maintain composure and perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents or other emergencies.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Physical and mental demands, work hazards: Works in standard school bus environment. Experience: Successful prior experience working as a bus driver, preferably in a school district or transporting children.
