You will help us understand how to maximize the value of sellers’ advertising budgets while balancing outcomes across our marketplace. In this role, you will partner closely with product managers, engineers, and applied scientists, connecting the dots between customer problems and the technical details of our models and systems. We are looking for someone who understands how to weigh opportunities, create unique insights, and bring analytical depth to a highly technical domain.This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Manager, Analytics. We partner with cross-functional peers through all stages of development, using rigorous methods to: identify initial opportunities, refine the user experience, analyze the impact of our efforts, and highlight improvement areas. Ultimately, the team’s work strengthens Etsy and helps continuously improve the Etsy experience!This role partners with the Ads Marketplace Squad within MARS (Machine Learning Enablement, Alliances & Understanding, Recommendations, and Search), the organization that develops the machine learning capabilities powering Etsy’s search and discovery experiences. Our mission is to guide our partner teams with data and insights and tell the story of how we attract and retain our users to teams, to senior management, and to the community.What does the day-to-day look like?Lead all analytical aspects of the product lifecycle from sizing opportunities all the way through to measuring success via experimentation for machine learning squads.Work closely and collaboratively with the Ads Marketplace leads to define key analysis questionsUse rigorous methods to conduct analysis and produce insights to improve the models that power Etsy Ads.Define metrics to ensure robust measurement of product performance.Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:4+ years experience as a data scientist or data analyst in which you have independently extracted meaning from big data sets with little engineering support.1+ year of experience as an data scientist or data analyst developing, evaluating, or analyzing the performance of machine learning models.Successful track record of guiding product teams to identify high-impact opportunities, set meaningful goals against key outcomes, and data-driven decisions. Experience working in a two sided market places environment.Mastery of SQL and proficiency in R/Python. Passionate to try new approaches to advance your technical skills. Bonus points for experience with the Spark ecosystem; and Looker, Tableau, or other data visualization software.Experience with crafting and analyzing online experiments with a good understanding of A/B testing.Ability to conduct sophisticated analyses and regularly use advanced statistical methods (ex. Propensity Score Matching, Causal Impact, Regression Models) in your work.Comfortable with distilling complex insights into compelling narratives for senior executives, both verbally and visually.Compensation & BenefitsIn addition to salary, you'll be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family. Base salary is determined by your location, skills, and experience.Etsy uses two geographic pay zones to reflect the labor markets where we compete for talent: one called Geo-1, covering the New York City metropolitan area, San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle metropolitan area, and one called Geo-2, covering all other U.S. locations. Salary ranges for this role vary by zone and are listed below.LocationWe prioritize candidates based within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office. Depending on proximity, we ask team members to come in once or twice per week. Remote candidates outside commutable distance may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the expectation of occasional travel to the office.
