The Branch ISD Special Education Department is offering supervised internships for school psychology students that are in their internship year in a graduate school psychology program. Under the direct supervision of the BISD School Psychologist Coordinator, the intern will complete all requirements for their university internship program and work to gain the skills needed to be a successful School Psychologist in the field of Special Education.

The Branch ISD Special Education Department is offering a supervised internship for school psychology students, under the direction of the Director of Special Education and Supervision of the School Psychologist Coordinator. The intern would provide direct services for assigned schools; assist in the intervention process as a member of the Child Study Team; perform individual psychological observations, evaluations, and assessments for referred students; explain the results of these evaluations to parents, teachers, and students, when appropriate; provide consultation to educational staff regarding behavioral issues; perform other related work as required.

Under the direct supervision of the BISD School Psychologist Coordinator, the intern will complete all requirements for their university internship program and work to gain the skills needed to be a successful School Psychologist in the field of Special Education.

1. Education: Candidates must be in their internship year in a graduate psychology program.

2. Mental Tasks: Ability to understand written and oral instructions; Ability to demonstrate appropriate verbal and written communications when interacting with others. Ability to analyze data and prepare reports from various data. Ability to learn new technology. Ability to extrapolate information from various sources to create a finished product. Ability to give directions and supervise others. Ability to collaborate with a variety of teams and team members. Ability to be flexible in stressful situations. Ability to accept feedback for performance improvements. Ability to organize and prioritize duties.

3. Physical Tasks: Sufficient ability to hear, in order to communicate with others. Ability to bend, stoop, squat and kneel while working on equipment, assisting students, etc. Ability to lift and move objects of at least 50 lbs. Ability to drive to and from meeting and/or work sites. Ability to work evenings, weekends and beyond an eight-hour day, if necessary.

4. Equipment: Ability to utilize electronic equipment and other necessary equipment such as telephones, computers or various types, IPAD, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to utilize various software and web-based applications.

Adhere to applicable Master Agreement, district and/or building policies and procedures including the staff handbook, but not limited to: attendance; business procedures; student discipline; safety (tornado, fire, lock-down, abuse/neglect procedures, etc.); obtaining parental permission; personal appearance; emergency, accident or illness 2. Attend all required meetings and submit required reports on time.

3. Maintain student records, student objectives, and security/inventory of equipment and materials according to identified system.

4. Follow administrative directives, verbal and/or written.

5. Safely supervise students during contact hours.

6. Maintain confidentiality.

7. Remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

8. Demonstrate acceptable ethical standards of the profession.

1. Communication and interpersonal relationship skills expected: Communicate clearly and accurately when writing/speaking. Communicate concerns, thoughts, and/or ideas to appropriate: Administrator; External personnel; Parents/guardians (verbal, written, telephone and home contacts); Other appropriate individuals as necessary. Maintain an environment that is conducive to student learning and collegial with coworkers. Assist other personnel as needed 2. Management and organizational skills expected: Effectively organize work tasks/duties and prioritize appropriately. Complete assignments and work tasks accurately, on time, and without constant supervision. Recommend necessary equipment, materials and resource purchases.

3. Application of job knowledge expected: Demonstrate logical problem-solving skills. Demonstrate skill in assisting students and staff to meet objectives and in utilizing educational equipment, materials, and resources. Provide positive reinforcement to students. Maintain an environment that facilitates learning and safeguards mental, emotional and physical health. Utilize a variety of educational materials and techniques to meet the individual needs of students. Maintain required professional credentials, licensing and continuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictate. Stay current in the academic field regarding best practice and compliance concerns through district-provided professional learning and outside district-provided opportunities. Meet specific performance objectives developed jointly with immediate supervisor. Demonstrate ability to use technology to perform basic work responsibilities such as data collection, data analysis, electronic communications, etc.

1. Initiate, facilitate and/or coordinate REEDS and Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) assessments in response to referrals for students suspected of being eligible for special education.

2. Write up and interpret the results of assessments to referral sources and parents.

3. Attend REED, IEP meetings, and other meetings.

4. Assist others in helping the LEA in developing, analyzing, and evaluating individual, group, and system-level interventions.

5. Provide consultation to parents, school personnel, students and others.

6. Complete all forms and reports in a timely manner consistent with ISD policies and Procedures.

7. Solve problems in a professional, constructive, people-friendly manner.

8. Attend relevant professional development activities.

9. Support and participate in Multi-Tiered Support of System (MTSS) activities.

10. Complete all assessments on referrals received from the constituent school districts.

11. Develop competence as a diagnostician in administering all of the following: intellectual assessments, academic achievement assessments, assessment of adaptive skills, social emotional assessments, and behavioral assessments.

12. Communicate to appropriate school officials and parents, the results of the psychological assessment and make viable recommendations for the individual being assessed.

13. Attend IEPC meetings as requested by immediate supervisor.

14. Attend Child Study meetings as requested by building principals.

15. Complete Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team Report.

16. Complete all necessary paperwork for evaluations.

17. Assist Special Education classroom teachers and supervisor in meeting and counseling with parents of students who receive special education.

18. Consult with and assist Special Education classroom teachers in providing appropriate instruction and/or intervention for their students.

19. Performs other duties as assigned.

20. To avoid disruption to school district operation and required student services, the employee must be able to work additional/supplemental days beyond the signed contract if needed.
