Job Details Position: Building Automation Service Technician Location: Greater Boston, MA (Chelmsford and surrounding areas) Salary: $35 - $55 per hour About the Role We’re seeking a skilled Building Automation Service Technician in the Boston area. This role supports commercial and institutional clients by ensuring their building automation systems (BAS) and connected HVAC equipment operate reliably and efficiently. You’ll be the boots on the ground delivering onsite technical support, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and system optimization for a portfolio of BAS customers. Responsibilities Perform on-site preventative maintenance (PM) and service visits on building automation systems and associated HVAC equipment. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair BAS hardware and control systems to minimize downtime and ensure peak performance. Support system start-ups, testing, calibration, and point-to-point verification. Work with customers, facility managers, and internal teams to resolve technical issues professionally and efficiently. Assist with software/firmware updates, system backups, and configuration checks. Respond to service calls and dispatch requests in a timely manner (including emergency or after-hours as needed). Maintain accurate service documentation, reports, and field logs. Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of hands‑on experience with building automation systems (BAS), HVAC controls, DDC systems or related service work. Strong mechanical, electrical, and controls troubleshooting skills. Experience with BAS platforms and common protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.). Comfortable using diagnostic tools, handheld meters, software utilities, and network interfaces. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to customers and team members. Nice to Have Experience with BAS manufacturers such as Niagara, Alerton, Automated Logic, Honeywell, or similar. HVAC mechanical or electrical training/certification. EPA Type II or universal refrigerant handling certification.
