Position: 2nd shift Mill Supervisor – Hastings

Department: Machine Milling

Direct Supervisor: Production Manager

Work shift is 2:45 pm - 1:30 am Monday - Thursday. Overtime Friday/Saturday/Sunday depending on business needs

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Supervise mill employees, meet productions goals, verify quality, prepare for shift transitions, and maintain a safe and clean department. Assist shift supervisor as needed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervision: supervise mill employees (30+)
2. Safety: enforce safety, monitor the workplace for safety violations and potential hazards, and help implement new safety programs
3. Efficiency: optimize production processes to meet production goals in the mill on each machine
4. Quality: verify quality of parts and assemblies using the Quality Assurance Program
5. Department Functions: set up and operate machines as needed
6. Continuous Improvement – 6S: ensure department cleanliness, 6S
7. Maintenance: ensure maintenance of equipment
8. Shift Transitions: organize shift transitions
9. Assist production manager
10. Meet Elevated Attendance Standards

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Able to lift and carry 25 pounds constantly
2. Able to lift and carry 50 pounds frequently
3. Able to stand/walk for an entire shift
4. Able to read a tape measure
5. Able and willing to work outside normal shift schedule
6. CPR and First Aid certified
7. Possess basic computer skills
8. LOTO trained for all machines in mill
9. Forklift certified through Quality One within 3 months
10. Able to communicate effectively and efficiently in English (orally and in writing)

JOB HAZARD ANALYSIS:

1. May be exposed to noise levels greater than or equal to 85 decibels for up to 10 hours.
2. Must be able to work in moderate levels of wood dust.
3. May be exposed to moderate levels of carbon monoxide.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Supervision: supervise mill employees
   1. Ensure efficient employee startups at the beginning of the shift and after breaks
   2. Administer performance reviews on time, give praise/discipline employees
   3. Monitor attendance and vacation requests
   4. Train new employees
   5. Facilitate rotation of employees
   6. Interview/hire new employees
2. Safety: enforce safety, monitor the workplace for safety violations and potential hazards, and help implement new safety programs
   1. Train new employees
   2. Enforce dress code and PPE are worn
   3. Perform emergency and accident procedures to company standards along with completing accident reports, close calls, and safety violations
   4. First aid and CPR trained
   5. LOTO trained for all equipment in assembly
3. Efficiency: optimize production processes to meet production goals in the mill on each machine.
4. Quality: verify quality of parts and assemblies using the Quality Assurance Program
5. Department Functions: set up and operate machines as needed
6. Continuous Improvement – 6S: ensure department cleanliness, 6S
   1. Actively participate in implementation and sustainment of 6S’s: Sort, Straighten, Scrub, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety
   2. Follow processes correctly as described in the Sustainment Schedule
   3. Contribute ideas for 30-day action log for continuous improvement
7. Maintenance: ensure maintenance of equipment
   1. Work with maintenance department on completion of routine and emergency maintenance
   2. Complete maintenance request forms
   3. Perform basic machine repairs
8. Shift Transitions: organize shift transitions
   1. Communicate to on coming supervisor
   2. Ensure production paperwork is accurate and complete
   3. Enter parts into inventory at end of shift
9. Assist production manager
   1. Order products that are assigned to you
   2. Complete special projects within expected time frames
   3. Fill in for absent supervisors in other departments
10. Elevated Attendance Standard
    1. 3 occurrences: written warning
    2. 6 occurrences: suspension and removal from position
