Lifeguard Position

This position is a full-time seasonal position without benefits that is only for a fixed duration. Performs life saving skills, provides instructional swimming lessons to children and adults, and monitors performance of lifeguards. Oversees that the facilities are fully inspected, as well as directs staff and monitors patrons. Schedules work duties for lifeguards, checks water pH balance and records outcome. Monitors timesheets or time cards for payroll and oversees the daily cash handling and deposits.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

• Must supervise and manage a group of lifeguards effectively including: time scheduling, lifeguard rotation scheduling, clean up scheduling, vacuum and filtration scheduling, check water pH balance daily, other duties specified by the Aquatic Supervisor
• Must manage and maintain pool facility effectively, which includes the opening and closing of the pool facility.
• Must effectively handle and manage a swimming pool's cash flow operations including cash deposits.
• Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public which includes: public service announcements and registration of any aquatics program.
• Must take appropriate responsibility under any emergency.
• Assists in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
• Must follow all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
• Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Effort Requirements Position will have the following exposures:

• Office or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
• Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work.
• Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
• Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

Work Environment Locations Position will require the employee to work in the following types of work environments:

• Never: Warehouse environment
• Seldom: Street environment (near moving traffic), construction site, confined space, vehicles
• Sometimes: Office or similar indoor environment
• Often: Outdoor environment

Exposures Position will require the employee to be exposed to the following environmental elements:

• Seldom: Individuals with known violent backgrounds, communicable diseases
• Sometimes: Individuals who are hostile or irate, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals or substances
• Often: Extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), moving mechanical parts, loud noises (85+ decibels such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, construction)

Travel Position will require the employee to travel:

• Never: Regional travel, national travel, international travel
• Often: Local travel

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• At least two (2) seasons of work experience as a lifeguard.
• At least one (1) year of supervising personnel and a program, and work experience in handling cash.

Valid Licenses and Certifications

Required Licenses or Certifications:

• Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
• Lifeguard Certificate**
• First Aid Certificate**
• CPR for Pro Certificate**

**Copies of certifications must be attached to the application.
