Senior Auditor – Medicaid Fraud Control Unit The Office of Attorney General Tim Griffin is seeking to hire a Senior Auditor to join its Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU). The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigates and prosecutes Medicaid provider fraud and patient abuse or neglect in healthcare facilities. The Unit works closely with state and federal law enforcement agencies to protect taxpayer dollars and ensure the integrity of the Medicaid program. Through audits, data analytics, and complex investigations, the Unit identifies fraudulent billing practices, false claims, and other unlawful conduct affecting the Medicaid system. The Senior Auditor’s role is two-fold: 1. Conducting data analytics to identify false claims, overpayments, and fraudulent activity involving Medicaid providers; and 2. Acting as the fiscal officer for the Unit. Responsibilities include auditing provider financial statements and billing records; conducting data mining operations; investigating allegations of fraudulent billing; creating and maintaining case databases; preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports; and assisting attorneys and investigators with complex fraud investigations. The Senior Auditor will also prepare financial reports, budget requests, and be responsible for accounts payable/receivable. Additional duties include supporting Medicaid data collection efforts for state and federal law enforcement partners, including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other agencies, providing technical assistance with software and hardware systems, training employees on case management software and advanced Excel functions, assisting with the execution of search warrants involving electronic evidence, and supporting the Unit’s overall mission and objectives. Qualified applicants should possess exceptional computer and analytical skills, including demonstrated experience with data analytics, data mining, auditing, or related disciplines. Candidates must be familiar with accounting principles and financial management processes, highly detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and capable of producing accurate work in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Conduct data analytics to identify false claims, overpayments, and fraudulent activity involving Medicaid providers. Act as the fiscal officer for the Unit. Audit provider financial statements and billing records. Conduct data mining operations. Investigate allegations of fraudulent billing. Create and maintain case databases. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Assist attorneys and investigators with complex fraud investigations. Prepare financial reports and budget requests. Manage accounts payable and receivable. Support Medicaid data collection efforts for state and federal law enforcement partners. Provide technical assistance with software and hardware systems. Train employees on case management software and advanced Excel functions. Assist with the execution of search warrants involving electronic evidence. Support the Unit’s overall mission and objectives. The position requires daily in-office presence and may require occasional travel. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and a degree from an accredited four‑year college or university; relevant full‑time experience in accounting, auditing, or a related field may be substituted for the educational requirement. Three to five years of full‑time experience in data analytics, auditing, accounting, financial investigations, or a closely related field. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, database management, and analytical software tools. Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience auditing healthcare providers or government programs. Experience conducting fraud examinations, forensic accounting, or financial investigations. Knowledge of Medicaid billing systems, healthcare reimbursement methodologies, or healthcare compliance programs. Experience working with large datasets and advanced data analytics tools. Experience with State Accounting Systems. Benefits This position offers competitive benefits and pay, including paid sick and holiday leave, group health insurance, and retirement programs for eligible employees.
