Job Description Join The University of Chicago Medicine as a Part‑Time Critical Care Outreach Nurse in the PICU Department. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago is a state‑of‑the‑art facility with 20 general PICU beds and 10 beds for cardiac intensive care patients. The PICU team directs care of these critically ill children together with consulting services from across the hospital. Responsibilities Provide advanced level of care to critically ill children throughout the Medical Center with 24/7 coverage. Respond to Rapid Response Team pages and ward cardiac arrest calls; assess deteriorating patients, communicate with the interdisciplinary team, implement interventions, and support primary nurses. Assist and accompany patient transfers to higher level of care or diagnostic testing requiring an RN. Maintain accurate documentation on Rapid Response Team, cardiac arrests, stroke team activation, and participate in reviews and data collation. Report data to the Center for Quality and work to improve the experience of critically ill patients. Required Qualifications Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). ADN nurses must enroll in a BSN program within 6–9 months of hire and complete it within 30 months. 100% tuition reimbursement for the BSN is provided. Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA). ACLS Certification. Minimum 3 years of clinical experience. At least 2 years of relevant ICU experience. Preferred Qualifications CCRN certification.
