Duties

Help

• You will conduct independent periodic inspections and evaluations of assigned activities to determine compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.
• You will advise on appropriate measures to eliminate or control hazardous operating procedures, hazardous occupational exposures or environmental conditions.
• You will conduct independent accident and mishap investigations.
• You will review plans and specifications for new construction, building alterations, and/or changes in installation equipment to ensure compliance with safety codes and standards.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performs inspections as member of a team of higher graded specialists assigned to an office to determine compliance with safety and occupational health laws and regulations; 2) Conducts verbal entrance and exit briefings with managers, supervisors, and work leaders prior to and after surveys and/or inspections to explain the purpose and scope of inspection and pertinent safety and occupational health regulations; 3) Surveys and/or inspects material handling, storage, maintenance, transportation operations, and support facilities for the purpose of determining adherence to established safety practices and program requirements.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree

OR

Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree

OR

Possession of an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to this position being filled.

OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
