Nurse, Mobile OBOT

OVERVIEW

Provides general professional nursing care, medication management, client support and logistically assists clinical professionals in a mobile clinic setting. Primarily works as part of a mobile treatment team for those with opioid use disorders who are receiving medication assisted recovery. Work is performed under general supervision and is guided by agency policies and procedures, quality assurance, public and private payor guidelines, professional practices and including ethical standards related to client interactions, Board of Pharmacy and Board of Nursing regulations, state and federal licensure and accreditation regulations and guidelines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides general nursing care. Conducts individual intake, follow‑up interviews, and performs physical, psychological and general casework assessments. Coordinates and monitors services and placements including intensive care with other agencies, providers, and consumer's family. Schedules and monitors psychiatric services as necessary with consulting psychiatric provider. Provides routine examinations such as measuring blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, BMI and blood glucose readings. Monitors withdrawal symptoms using standardized instruments including, but not limited to, Clinical Opioid Withdrawal Scale and the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol. Dispenses medications, monitors medication and administers injections. Conducts urine/saliva drug screenings and records results. Records data, prepares and maintains detailed case records and other records. Conducts SBIRT and standardized substance use screenings as appropriate. Provides counseling and educational information regarding medication use, diet, health maintenance, etc. to individual and/or individual families and care givers. Orders, inventories and secures pharmaceuticals for use by program individuals. Prepares medical correspondence and reports and maintains up-to-date medical history information in the patient's chart. Maintains adequate first aid supplies and materials. Responds to medical emergencies and other potential crisis situations. Attends required team meetings, staff meetings, conferences, and in services training. Does related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of the principles, standards, practices and techniques related to psychiatric and general nursing including addiction medicine; considerable knowledge of pharmacology and the administration of psychotropic medication, specifically medication for opioid use disorders; considerable knowledge of Board of Pharmacy and Board of Nursing regulations relating to prescription drug storage, administration and documentation; considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques related to individual and group therapy practices for those with behavioral health disorders. Considerable knowledge of substance use disorders, communicable and other infectious diseases, and the psychological/physical effects of detoxification and withdrawal; considerable knowledge of community treatment providers and other agencies; ability to establish and maintain rapport with the individual population; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency clinicians and staff of other private and public organizations; ability to function calmly in stressful situations; ability to conduct effective interviews, observe, assess and record individual behaviors and function.

TYPICAL EDUCATION, TRAINING AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred. At least three years of nursing experience with minimum of one year experience working with individuals on medication for opioid use disorders. Applicants without Bachelor's Degree may be considered with at least three years of experience working with individuals on medication for opioid use disorders.

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS

State Certified Registered Nurse preferred. State Certified Licensed Practical Nurse will be considered with at least three years of experience working with individuals on medication assisted recovery. Valid Virginia Driver's License; current First Aid and CPR certification

OTHER

Must possess all qualifications and skills required by federal and state regulations to bill Medicaid for the services provided.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL EXPOSURE

Work involves considerable exposure to disagreeable environmental conditions such as the requirements to interact with clients having unsanitary behaviors, poor hygiene and contagious illness and/or are potentially violent; drive a vehicle in inclement, if not severe weather; occasionally physically assist and/or lift clients in the course of care or moderate weight objects in connection with operating the facility. Due to his position being a mobile setting, there is additional responsibility regarding the upkeep and maintenance of the mobile unit.
