Assistant Preschool Teacher

The Assistant Preschool Teacher facilitates the free play of children both indoors and outdoors. The Assistant Preschool Teacher supports the learning environment, caregiving routines, and preparing needed materials and supplies daily. They establish and maintain a positive relationship with all co-workers and parents.

Salary: $16.50 - $17.11, per HVFSMCC contract

Reports To: Early Childhood Supervisor/Director of Early Childhood

Status: 26/27 School Year

Start Date: ASAP

Minimum Qualifications:

• Should be familiar with High Scope
• Experience with preschool children ages 2 1/2 - 5 years
• Ability to initiate, interact and encourage children in activities
• Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with parents, students and staff
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Required to have a current CPR & First Aid training certificate; Child Abuse & Neglect clearance from MiLEAP; Blood Borne Pathogen training
• Ability to exert physical effort in sedentary to heavy work involving routine stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
• Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted

Essential Functions:

• Share responsibility for the physical, social, emotional and academic welfare of all students
• Work with the teacher to maintain materials, equipment, and classroom as required by child daycare licensing
• Attend staff training and meetings
• Other duties as assigned by the preschool teacher, Early Childhood Supervisor and/or the Early Childhood Director

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma and/or related experience.

Language, Mathematical and Reasoning Skills: Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
