Radiology Technologist

Operates radiology equipment to produce radiographic images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Positions radiologic equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance according to examination specifications. Takes x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety. Retrieves radiologic orders and inputs related data into electronic medical records. Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Escorts patients to the dressing and x-ray rooms, providing verbal and/or written instructions and assisting them in positioning body parts to be radiographed. Explains procedures to patients to alleviate anxieties and obtain cooperation. Positions patients on examining tables and adjusts positioning devices to obtain optimal views of specified body areas requested by physicians. Operates specialized equipment according to protocols under limited physician supervision. Provides patient care across a broad range of healthcare needs in various settings including emergency services, outpatient imaging, and surgical environments. Moves radiographic equipment into specified positions and adjusts controls to set exposure factors based on knowledge of radiographic techniques. Practices radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices and patient shielding skills to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff. Obtains acceptable radiologic images using CR/DR techniques and protocols. Ensures the operation of radiology equipment by completing preventative maintenance, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, and maintaining equipment inventories. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisors or appropriate personnel. Maintains examination rooms and stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies as per established protocols. Adheres to infection control policies and administers first aid when necessary. Supports department goals through personal improvements and educational activities. Maintains professional standards in conjunction with recommended practice standards. In an inpatient setting, assists with monitoring the patient's level of moderate sedation. Initiates patient comfort measures and ensures informed consent has been obtained prior to procedures. Actively participates in the Universal Protocol for all invasive procedures. Demonstrates independent judgment in planning operations and making decisions in a complex professional field. Works directly with patients and external customers, engaging in face-to-face interactions. Collaborates effectively with healthcare professionals and staff.
