Chief Development Officer
$110k - $130kLove Energy Savings
Overview The Chief Development Officer at Patty Baker Humane Society Naples is the person responsible for how PBHSN funds its mission. You own the full scope of the organization's fundraising program: annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, grants, corporate partnerships, special events, and the donor relationships that make all of it possible. You set the strategy. You build the team. You grow the revenue. And you do it in partnership with a leadership team deeply invested in development and ready to work alongside you to take this program to the next level. This isn't a maintenance role. PBHSN is in a season of growth and transformation, and the CDO will play a central role in shaping what comes next. You will have the opportunity to strategize and to innovate. You'll lead a development team that includes a Donor Relations Coordinator, Events Manager, Donor Database Specialist, and Major Gifts Liaison, with additional support from an external major events consulting group. You'll help manage a portfolio of major donors personally while also setting the strategic direction for every revenue channel in the department. If you're the kind of leader who gets energized by taking a strong foundation and making it great, who finds deep satisfaction in watching a program and a team grow under your direction, and who believes that smart, relationship-driven fundraising can change what's possible for the animals in our care, this might be exactly the role you've been looking for. Pay and Benefits $110,000 - $130,000 annually A generous benefits package that includes: Medical, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and paid holidays Paid parental leave $25,000 life insurance policy at no cost to you Optional enrollment in supplemental insurance plans (disability, accident, etc.) Optional enrollment in 403(b) retirement plan; matching contributions after one year of service Discounts on veterinary services and pet food WHO YOU ARE First and foremost, you're a hard worker. You're diligent. You see things through. You care about doing the job, and ensuring that the job is done right. You are driven by success. You're a big-picture thinker. You've never been the person who just focuses on what's right in front of you. You naturally zoom out. You like puzzles because you see how the pieces connect, how one thing leads to another, and why the order matters. Strategy isn't something you learned. It's how your brain works. You're a people person, and you mean it. Not the "work the room and hand out business cards" kind (but that’s certainly part of the job). You actually and genuinely enjoy getting to know people. You remember the details. You follow up because you care, not because it's on a list. You understand that support is trust and it’s earned over time, and you take that seriously. You like keeping score. Not in a competitive way (okay, maybe a little). You just like knowing where things stand. You know which route saves ten minutes and you take it every time. You read the reviews before you try the new restaurant. When someone says "it went great"; your first thought is "great compared to what?" You trust your gut, but you check the numbers first, because the numbers tell you where you've been and where you're headed. Data drives decisions. People come to you. For your thoughts, for advice, for the honest answer no one else will give them. In group projects you somehow always ended up leading, not because you volunteered, but because everyone just kind of looked at you. You'd rather lift someone else up than take the credit, and nothing makes you happier than watching someone you believed in prove you right. You love animals. This probably goes without saying, but we're an animal shelter. You should like dogs and cats. We all do! But it's more than that, this work is about the feeling of fulfillment that comes from helping drive our mission to save lives forward. JOB TASKS The Chief Development Officer is the senior leader responsible for the strategy, execution, and growth of all fundraising and revenue development at the organization. You'll set direction across every revenue channel, manage a team of development professionals, carry a personal portfolio of major donors, and partner closely with the CEO on the highest-level cultivation and organizational strategy. FUNDRAISING STRATEGY & REVENUE LEADERSHIP You'll develop and lead PBHSN's comprehensive annual development plan in collaboration with the CEO, setting revenue targets, campaign strategies, and key performance indicators across every fundraising channel. You own overall fundraising revenue performance and are accountable for reporting progress, identifying risks, and making strategic adjustments throughout the year. EVENTS & CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS You'll provide strategic direction and oversight for PBHSN's full event portfolio, including four signature events (Run for Paws, Pet Lover's Gala, Bow Wow Brunch, and Paws by the Bay) and a growing calendar of community fundraising events. You'll also lead the growth of PBHSN's corporate partnership and sponsorship program. MAJOR GIFTS, PLANNED GIVING & INSTITUTIONAL GIVING You'll carry a personal portfolio of major gift prospects and donors while also building and overseeing the systems and pipeline that support major giving across the organization. You’ll direct and work in tandem with the Major Gifts Liaison to ensure the best possible outcomes. You'll partner directly with the CEO on the highest-level donor relationships and set the strategic direction for planned giving and institutional funding. TEAM LEADERSHIP, OPERATIONS & ORGANIZATIONAL ENGAGEMENT You'll lead and develop the development team, manage the operational infrastructure that supports all fundraising activity, and serve as a strategic partner to the CEO on board engagement and donor communications. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Sales, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5 years of progressive fundraising experience with demonstrated success across multiple revenue channels including major gifts, annual fund, events, corporate partnerships, and grants. Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role managing a development team, with demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and retain high-performing staff. Demonstrated experience in major donor cultivation and solicitation, including personal management of a donor portfolio. Experience collecting and using data to perform strategic planning, report data-driven results, and drive positive outcomes. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to represent the organization professionally to colleagues, donors, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
