Licensed Practical Nurse

The primary purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) GS-6 is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the Veteran. The LPN GS-6 is a full performance functional level for the LPN occupation for providing practical nursing care with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. The LPN GS-6 is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice. Other LPN duties include but are not limited to:

• Being proficient in initiating, performing, and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations
• Being knowledgeable and having the ability to appropriately carry out assigned patient care based on the patients' conditions; to use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; and to accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information
• Providing nursing care as ordered by the attending physician, conducting procedures such as obtaining vital signs, assessing pain, performing injections, accu-checks, and monitoring patients for subtle changes in condition, both physical and emotional
• Prepares and administering prescribed medications-including oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, PRN medications, and vaccines-in accordance with policy
• Observing for changes related to medication or treatment administration, accurately documenting, and reporting findings
• Recognizing urgent or emergent situations, seeking assistance from the Registered Nurse (RN) or Physician, and initiating emergency interventions as directed
• Performing respiratory treatments such as postural drainage, chest physiotherapy, oxygen and nebulization treatments, suctioning, and routine tracheostomy care, monitoring and documenting observations as appropriate
• Supporting complex diagnostic tests and specialized procedures, preparing patients, assisting with examinations, and handling specialized equipment
• Assisting with external and Foley catheter care, irrigation, finger sticks, specimen collection, changing sterile dressings, administering enemas, and environmental safety procedures, including emergency equipment checks
• Monitoring and regulating intravenous fluids, observing IV sites, changing peripheral IV dressings and administration sets, and discontinuing peripheral catheters as authorized
• Other LPN duties as assigned

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Note: Work schedules are determined and approved by the supervisor. The incumbent may be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis based on facility/patient care needs).

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66
