AVID Tutor – SHS

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Education/Certification

• High School Graduate
• Current enrollment in a post-secondary education institution (preferred)
• 12 Hours Tutorology training (will be provided and must be completed in first year of employment)

• Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to think/adapt quickly
• Ability to perceive student needs

Major Responsibilities and Duties

1. Uphold the "Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Education." Keep informed of and comply with district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
2. Contribute to the educational system by upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
3. Cooperate with all district personnel in implementing the goals and policies of the district and campus and/or program assigned.
4. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to accommodate the needs and abilities of the students involved.
5. Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students in the AVID classrooms.
6. Take all necessary precautions to promote student welfare and protect the students, equipment and facilities.
7. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by district policy, and administrative regulations.
8. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
9. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the district.
10. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
11. Abide by the Board of Trustees' Policies and Administrative Regulations.
12. The AVID Tutor shall be under the general supervision of the program administrator/supervisor (AVID District Director).
13. Other duties as assigned.

Ability to transport materials/supplies to be used in tutorial sessions

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of non-exempt personnel.
