Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Ability to read telemetry strips Description: The registered nurse will work in a stepdown unit with a total of 32 beds. The nurse will care for a typical MedSurg population including patients with chest pain, COPD, AMS, pneumonia, UTI, and abdominal pain. The nurse will perform monitoring tasks which include reading telemetry strips in conjunction with telemetry monitor technicians. The nurse will be required to titrate drips in the stepdown unit, as standard floor nurses only manage PCAs and heparin. A charge nurse is budgeted for the unit, and a house supervisor is always available. Provided staffing allows for a ratio of 1:3 for stepdown patients and 1:4-6 for floor patients. Weekend work is mandatory, requiring two weekends per schedule. Holiday work will be integrated into the permanent staff holiday schedule. The position may require floating to other floors or stepdown units as needed. The dress code consists of royal blue scrubs. The charting system used is EPIC. This position does not require a BSN.
