Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Evenings Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Certification, NIHSS, PALS Must-Have: 3-5 years of previous Emergency Department experience Description: Candidates must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays. Unit is a fast track with 5 beds. There are 26 total beds in the Emergency Room. The unit does not have separate psych/seclusion rooms. It accommodates 2-3 psychiatry patients per day. The unit sees 40-160 patients per day. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, and PALS. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 3:1 or 4:1. Electronic medical records are maintained using Cerner - FirstNet. Charge nurses do not have patient assignments. Nurse aides and paramedics assist with patient care and tasks such as EKGs and splints. Security or patient sitters are always present in the waiting area. Weekend work is required on an every-other-weekend basis. Holiday shifts will rotate with core staff. Scrub colors are navy blue for RNs and hunter green for aides. There are no monitor technicians; nurses must read and interpret their own strips. The nursing unit has a central monitoring station. Ventilation support is available 24/7. Physician coverage includes 2-3 physicians along with mid-level providers. Registered nurses perform all lab draws. There is no IV team on-site. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, as is pharmacy support. Shifts are 12 hours long with various start times. Floating to other units is not required. Floor-specific orientation includes modules on trauma. Common patient diagnoses include STEMI and CVA, with a broad range of minor to trauma cases. The unit serves a diverse patient population, often with low socioeconomic status. It receives approximately 55,000 visits per year. Cancellation policies allow the hospital to cancel up to 4 shifts per assignment duration.
