Closing Date: Continuous Interview Date: TBD Desired Start Date: TBD Under direct supervision, will provide public reception, collect admissions, prepare deposits, provide information and necessary services to the general public at the Paul Nelson Aquatic Center and/or the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center. Will assist with reporting incidents/accidents, assist with the general facility maintenance activities, and perform other duties as assigned. Weekends, holidays, and split shift work will be required. These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization.

WHO WE ARE: The City of Santa Maria is a full-service City with a City Council/City Manager form of government with over 700 employees, and serves approximately 108,000 constituents. The City of Santa Maria is located on the beautiful central coast of California and covers over 23 square miles. The City has a harmonious balance of maintaining coastal and agricultural lands while promoting business. Santa Maria has been recognized nationally as an All-America City by the National Civic League and offers reasonably priced housing, community festivals, quality schools, and is in close proximity to beaches, cultural arts, a local airport, wineries, and higher education institutions.

WHAT WE DO: The Department of Recreation and Parks' mission is to enrich the lives of the residents of Santa Maria through quality recreation programs and services; and to provide safe and well-maintained facilities and parks, while anticipating the changing needs of the community. The department operates 234 acres of developed parkland in 28 neighborhood and community parks, part of the 1,774-acre Los Flores Ranch Park property, the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, and other community centers. The department provides programs in aquatics, youth and adult sports. It also manages the City's Urban Forest Program.

Duties

Swim Pool Clerk (Recreation Clerk) IDEAL CANDIDATE Knowledge of: English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; modern office methods, procedures, and equipment including computer systems, Microsoft Office Suite software and filing systems; and principles and practices of exemplary customer service. Ability to: Learn the organization, procedures, and operating details of the City department to which assigned; perform routine clerical work including maintenance of appropriate records and files; operate a variety of modern office equipment such as copy machines, computer terminals, etc.; verify and check files and data; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; understand and carry out oral and written directions; take a proactive approach to problem solving; and establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age, self-motivated, and have excellent public relations skills.
• Applicant must be able to perform simple math calculations, be responsible, dependable, and have the ability to work independently.
• Personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheets, and permitting software; 10 key calculator; copy machine; phone; fax machine.

Desired Certification: American Red Cross CPR and Standard First Aid. License: Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver License. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and be insurable to operate City vehicles.

Selection Process

A complete application is required. The most qualified candidates will be selected to appear before an interview panel. The interview panel will recommend a limited number of candidates to the eligibility list from which the new Swim Pool Clerk may be selected. This recruitment may also establish an eligibility list for future Recreation Clerk openings.
